Rafe Varik
The troublemaker. The risk taker. The sexy club owner full of wicked promises.
Rafe has devoted his immortal existence to pleasure and causing mischief.
The only ones who can depend on him are his brothers. Of course, that’s very much a Varik thing.
But when the leader of the Arsenault clan specifically requests Rafe’s help in tracking down a killer, he can’t say no.
Sure, Rafe claims he’s doing it for his family. They’ve attracted too many enemies and could use a few allies.
That’s not the whole truth, though.
There’s something about Philippe Arsenault that draws Rafe in. He wants more of Philippe. The vampire leaves him longing for another second in his presence, another taste of his lips, another caress of those perfect fingers.
Yet when it’s all over, what will become of Philippe and Rafe? Because Philippe will always be an Arsenault, and Rafe will always be a Varik.
Saving Rafe is the second book in an MM paranormal romance series that has vampires, betrayal, annoying brothers, music, heartbreak, hope, sexy times, and a pair of star-crossed lovers.
REVIEW:
If you have been following this series, this is its second book. The first book is Claiming Marcus. This series focuses on brothers Marcus, Rafe, Bel and Winter, who are all vampires. They make an unanimous decision to become vampires in order to take care of their mother, who was sick even before she was turned into a vampire in order to cure her illness. But it didn’t turn out as they were hoping so they had to turn themselves into vampires, too, so that they can care for their mother for eternity.
In Claiming Marcus, we saw Marcus fall in love with Ethan, a human. Ethan set out for revenge when he applied for a job as Marcus’ assistant whose task was to prepare Marcus’ property for transport to another state. We saw how Marcus and Ethan fell in love with each other and what they had to go through in order to be together. We also saw the death of a loved one and how the brothers banded together with their father in order to bring justice.
Now it is time for Rafe to rise up to another challenge the family needs to go through in order to protect those who need it. After they destroyed the Black Wolf Clan, other clans now see them as a clan vying for power and wish to overturn the Ministry when in reality, they were just saving and protecting those they love. Now another clan needs their help and Rafe needs to meet up with the leader as instructed by Marcus. After the trouble they had with the Black Wolf Clan, they are thinking of forming alliances with other clans in order to become stronger and more formidable.
The minute they laid eyes on each other, Philippe and Rafe felt the attraction instantaneously. Philippe is asking for help from the Variks to find one of his clan mates. In reality, Piper, the missing vampire from the Arsenault clan, is the third to have disappeared. Running against time to find Piper before she gets killed, just like the two previous missing vampires, has put Philippe and Rafe in close contact with each other. But when they can’t find any viable suspects after following numerous avenues, Philippe and even Rafe have to think of the very real possibility that the killer is from within the clan.
I love how the series is coming along, the way it was written is excellent. The four brothers themselves are just like any typical sibling of four; they are loud, caring, protective and so full of love for each other. When their father came back, and Rafe was still wallowing in despair, Aiden decided to visit Rafe himself. My heart broke and I cried when Rafe felt Aiden in his home. The longing and the love Rafe felt for his father, and his sadness and despair on the death of his mother were finally released through his sobs. Rafe realized that he has been holding it all back since Aiden left to take their mother to her favorite place and bury her there. A story full of so much love between brothers, between lovers, between father and sons and between friends.
This is looking like another great series from Ms. Jocelynn Drake! I am looking forward to the rest of the brothers’ stories.
