Kyle Vaughn had three goals in life: become a vet, find the man of his dreams, and start a family. He easily checked off the first item on the list when he took over his grandfather’s veterinary practice. Too bad he wasn’t as lucky in love.
Chaz Hamilton took a leap of faith when he decided to pursue a career in writing, but one best seller didn’t mean he could quit his day job. All work and no play threatened to make Chaz a very dull man when the only romantic action he saw was in the pages of his manuscript. Too bad he couldn’t write his own happily every after.
Circumstances pushed the two men together, and one magical kiss beneath fireworks and stars changed everything. Kyle knew his luck had finally turned around and Chaz found a man far better than any book boyfriend ever written. There was just one problem. Chaz has kept a secret from Kyle that could ruin their chance at a beautiful life together.
Kyle and Chaz learn that the best-laid plans often go awry, the heart has a mind of its own, and the greatest love is unscripted.
The books in the Road to Blissville series can be read either as standalone books or as part of the series. This book contains sexually explicit material and is intended for mature adults 18 and older.
REVIEW:
Chaz Hamilton works at a salon with his two best friends, Josh and Meredith. Josh is engaged to Gabe, a cop who used to be with Kyle – who is a local boy returned home. Kyle has taken over his grandfather’s vet practice and he’s happy to be home. He and Gabe are still friends – they just work better as friends than boyfriends and so he is included in Josh and Gabe’s circle for their traditional Sunday dinner get-togethers along with Chaz. Kyle is a few years older than Chaz, so they didn’t really go to school together, but Chaz was friends with Kyle’s younger sister. Chaz is VERY attracted to Kyle and it seems like the feeling might be mutual.
Chaz’s other pursuit is writing. He’s already published a book – which he hasn’t really shared with anyone. While he’s researching his next novel, he does some online gaming. He gets a bit over his head, but he thinks he’s salvaged his book. Kyle tries to make it clear that he would like to date Chaz, but after a steamy kiss on the 4th of July, Chaz bolts. Kyle cannot figure out what he’s done wrong and Chaz isn’t exactly forthcoming. For a while they seem to go back and forth – on step forward – two retreating. But they can’t exactly avoid each other since they live in a small town and there friends are getting married and they are involved in those plans as well. Chaz and Kyle continue to get closer, but then Chaz pulls away again and Kyle is devastated.
Finally, after too many attempts to stay away from each other and too many meddling friends and family members, Chaz comes clean with Kyle about why he has pushed him away. Kyle is pretty angry at first. Chaz is pretty sure that he won’t be forgiven and this is the end of the line. But Kyle opens up to him about why he felt the way he did and just how much he really likes Chaz and feels like they could really have something. So they decide to take a bit of a step back and try again. There are a number of funny moment with family and friends. Both Chaz’s family and Kyle’s family are happy for them and of course beyond meddling and nosy 🙂 Their friends pretty much are of the opinion “about damn time” since they’ve been watching the dance for a while.
So this was actually the very first book I read by this author a couple of years ago. I read the first few books in this series and I wanted to continue on, but needed a refresh before I read the rest of them. I was happy to find the audio books were out now, so I’m doing my refresh via those 🙂 I absolutely loved this couple! Chaz is a fun and funny character. I loved his playful and sarcastic nature and his relationship with his BFFs. I also really liked Kyle. He’s definitely a more serious guy and frankly he needs someone like Chaz to make his life a little more fun and satisfying. He’s been so serious for so long and he really needs to lighten up. Chaz totally does that for him on so many levels. He really wants to take care of Chaz – but more in the taking care of his heart way. Chaz is perfectly capable of taking care of himself and he’s shown Kyle on numerous occasions when other men come around 😉 Kyle’s figured out early on that Chaz is the one for him – but he’s gotta work pretty hard at convincing Chaz. As usual, Joel Leslie’s narration works on every level. He’s funny and playful when the story calls for it and then tender and serious when the mood shifts. He does a great job transitioning in the alternating First Person POV’s of Chaz and Kyle. I really liked his choices and I’m very anxious to get to the next book. Highly recommended.
