They called him Nightmare, but Alec Vasilios, a wealthy and powerful businessman, wants to call Kai his own.
Kai’s past has left him with little trust in others and even more reluctance to surrender himself to Alec’s power. With both men harboring supernatural secrets, finding common ground won’t come without sacrifice.
REVIEW:
This was a neat little book and a quick read.
Alec and Kai are very different and their first meeting didn’t go well at all. It took ten years and the impending death of a loved one to convince Kai to trust Alec and once that’s done the rest is inevitable.
Given that the book is so short, the author makes a good attempt at making the characters well rounded and believable, especially when they are both supernatural beings. I don’t think she entirely succeeds because the internal dialogue can be clumsy at times. That being said, I enjoyed both of them, especially Kai and I think if the story were expanded there’s a lot of meat there for more in depth character development.
The story, despite its short length, is engaging with some nice twists at the end, although I felt that it wasn’t particularly well developed. There was a lot crammed into a short space and it showed. I would have liked the thoughts and feelings of the characters to be explored in greater depth and rolled out gradually and the progression seems jerky.
Although I have criticisms, they’re not in the story telling per se but only that the length of the book is too short for the story and if it were expanded a little it has potential to be a great book. The author definitely establishes a connection with the characters which could be fascinating if a little time were taken to carry that connection through to the end, which felt a bit rushed.
There were very few background characters, but the one shining light was Kai’s mother, and to be honest I was drawn to her mother than the other two, even though we only really get to know her through Kai. I would definitely have fought in her corner.
All-in-all the book is a short, fun read, with two unique and interesting character and is certainly enjoyable even though I would have liked it to be longer. I would definitely read this author again, if the books were longer.
