Cole knows he’ll have to work hard to earn Kai’s trust, but time is short and being denied the ability to claim his mate is driving him crazy. With the threat of Kai’s uncle, desperate to get him back, looming, Kai stands to lose much more than his freedom. But as he lets his guard down, he risks losing his heart to Cole.
REVIEW:
J.R. Loveless was one of the first m/m authors I discovered and I have always loved their stories. Finding Seth, the first book in this series still resides on my to be read again list and I probably re-read it twice a year.
It’s been a long wait for book three, but it was worth it.
Cole is your typical alpha in some ways. Big and strong, protective and fierce, but he’s also a lot more. He’s sweet and kind, doing his best to help Kai without putting any pressure on him, even though biology tries to get the best of him over and over. I like how he learns along the way from his unintended mistakes and becomes a better person through his determination to do what’s best for Kai.
Kai is scared and suspicious and he has every right to be. After being tormented and tortured by his uncle for years, he’s desperate to be free. Being tied to a huge man who seems terrifying…but not…doesn’t sound like freedom to him.
The author does a great job of portraying the growth both of her main characters go through during the story. It happens fast, but circumstances and being fated mates helps the reader get over the speed of their transformations.
I love the world the author has built for her character’s to live in. It’s rich and complex and I’d visit it as often as I could, if they’d only give us more stories from there! It was nice to have the little visits from the characters of the previous books. For me, it’s like a welcome visit from old friends.
There’s a couple of spots where it went a little slow for me, but that could totally be my over-eagerness to see how it all turns out for these two lovely characters.
If you’re looking for a story that’s not quite your average “rescue” tale, then I highly recommend this book…and any book from J.R. Loveless.
