Ren is in desperate need of a rebound fling. Lucky for him the smoking hot contractor he hired has just the tool for the job.
The last thing I want is another relationship, or another broken heart.
All I need are my bees and the occasional hookup to scratch the itch.
Okay, maybe meeting up with my hot contractor weekly is a little more than occasional. And maybe the way I’m starting to feel about the guy I’ve been anonymously chatting with online should concern me.
But CaulkyAF doesn’t want to meet, and Cole doesn’t want anything serious, so what’s the worst that could happen?
** Caulky is book 1 in the Four Bears Construction Series and can be read as a stand-alone. This is a funny, steamy MM story guaranteed to make you laugh and swoon. Absolutely NO cheating and NO love triangle
Cole doesn’t say anything right away, just sags against the building beside me. I can hear the snag of his shirt against the roughness of the bricks, the faint sound of music and laughter from inside the bar, cars driving by on the street only a few feet away.
“Or…” Cole says, dragging the word out slowly, letting it hang in the air between us, daring me to snatch it. “We could go on a date.”
“What?” I try to make sense of his words, examining them from every angle and coming up short.
“You know, a date—dinner, movie, chaste kiss on your front porch as we sigh over the butterflies in our stomachs.”
“You don’t date,” I point out.
“Not for any big reason. There’s nothing wrong with me,” he says. “I’m not emotionally damaged by a past relationship, my parents are still happily married and happen to be very nice people, I don’t have low self-esteem. I’ve just never met a man who’s made me want to throw away my little black book, so to speak.”
“And I’m that guy?” I ask dryly, refusing to be swayed by his words, no matter how much they make my stomach flutter and my heart flail.
He shrugs. “Maybe. I don’t know. What I do know is that I haven’t slept with anyone but you in months, and that kind of feels like it means something. And I know that I came here tonight because I was dying to meet the man I’ve connected with on a level I didn’t even know I had, and it turned out it was you. It feels like that means something too.”
My heart beats faster and, without thinking, I move a few inches closer to him so our shoulders brush.
“I don’t date,” I point out more weakly this time, desperately trying to hold on to my conviction that another relationship would be an epically bad idea.
“Sure, you do,” he argues. “So, your last relationship messed you up a bit, you’re still a serial monogamist. You were with Henry for years, and before that you had a string of long term boyfriends, not casual hook ups.”
I groan, tilting my head back against the building again, looking up at the dark night sky, the stars obscured by the lights of the city.
“I hate that you know all that.”
“Please. One date,” he presses. “What could it hurt.”
I groan again, turning my head to look at him. He looks right back, his eyes filled with hope that breaks right through the icy exterior I tried so hard to build around my heart.
“Fine, one date.”
A slow smile spreads across his face, lighting a fire inside of me. I lean forward and press my lips to his. Somehow, they taste different now that I know he’s Caulky. They feel different in the best possible way. The chemistry that has sizzled between us since the first night we met is turned up to eleven now, sparking deep inside me and catching my skin on fire as his tongue sweeps past my lips and his fingers tangle in my hair. At some point, he moved from his place beside me to pin me against the wall. The brick is rough against my skin, even through my shirt, but I couldn’t give less of a fuck right now as Cole kisses me like I’m oxygen—not like he’s suffocating, but like he’s fire, burning hotter when we come together.
The door swings open loudly beside us, and Cole groans as he pulls away from the kiss.
“Shit, sorry,” the guy says with a drunken giggle. “That kiss had some serious heat. If you guys are planning to fuck, I’m totally down to watch.”
Author K.M.Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together. She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series. When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
