REVIEW:
The dynamic within this trope is simple to understand. A boy who needs a daddy to take care of him and who knows and provides what he wants. Although this might be a little much for some people, there are those who need to let go of some really heavy responsibilities and by being a boy to a daddy provides this particular dynamic.
Tommy’s Daddy died in a plane crash over a year ago. In Juan’s desire to take care of his boy even after he died, he left everything to Tommy including his businesses and all his properties. But then because Juan and Tommy are well known in the city of Valencia, everybody knows that Tommy is now a multi-millionaire. So he is surrounded by admirers but he is not sure if they really want him or just his money.
Rick owns a chain of coffee shops in London. A year ago, he lost his boy in a motorcycle accident. Leo tried to hang on for a few days, but his injuries were severe and he died. Rick and Leo were on a Mediterranean cruise a few years back and when they stopped in Valencia for a day, they liked the place. Now Rick wants to visit it again. If not for his PA, Rick wouldn’t have scheduled his Valencia trip early.
Losing someone you have loved for so long can be devastating and you might get lost in the sadness after!
Maybe it was fate as they saw each other in a plaza, something drew both their attention towards each other. Tommy takes the initiative to sit on the bench next to Rick and start talking. Tommy invites Rick to come to his club at 9 that evening. It is supposedly where he works. Tommy decides to act as a waiter/server in order to see if Rick would still be interested in him.
The storyline is very attractive, the trope more so. I think if the story was told in depth and had more conversation about their previous lives and their plans for the future, maybe the story would become more vibrant. And if what happened to each of them and their partners were explored more, it would have added to the whole tale. The getting-to-know-each-other part of any story usually sets the whole tale, so that would be a big plus! Also, the conversations were a little direct for me. I think I have mentioned it before that I love my stories with more descriptions, that’s just me though! I am looking forward to reading more from B.J. Smyth!
