Finding Giorgio, Found At Last Book One
by Joe Cosentino, published by Dreamspinner Press
cover by Paul Richmond
Paul Richmond is Dreamspinner Press’s best kept secret. Besides creating hundreds of wonderful book covers, Paul is an amazing artist and graphic designer with gallery showings of his own paintings. He also published a riotous gay comic book called Cheesecake Boys. Paul is also a kind, sweet, and generous person, having been involved in many fundraisers and marches for good causes. And he is so patient when you ask for changes on your book covers!
As Associate Art Director at Dreamspinner Press, Paul was involved in the supervision of my book covers for In My Heart: An Infatuation (loosely based on my high school years) and A Shooting Star (loosely based on my college years as a theatre major) and my Bobby and Paolo Holiday Stories (A Home for the Holidays, The Perfect Gift, The First Noel) about distant cousins who meet in Capri, Italy, fall in love, marry, and adopt a son. I was thrilled when Paul drew the cover for The Naked Prince and Other Tales from Fairyland (my comic gay take on my favorite fairytales).
My current release, Finding Giorgio (Found At Last Book One), features Theo Stratis, an unlucky in love young accountant, who registers at his upstate New York LGBTQ Center to visit an elderly gay person. Theo is matched with Nolan Downes who lives in a local nursing home. The young man is charmed by the eccentric ex-pharmacist and his wisecracking caretaker Tanisha. However, Theo is shocked at Nolan’s request for him to find the love of Nolan’s youth: Giorgio Roberto. Upon questioning Nolan, Theo finds out Giorgio’s parents had separated Nolan and Giorgio at eighteen after their romantic summer at a Poconos resort. Nolan had kept Giorgio’s picture and his love for Giorgio in his heart ever since. Theo is also surprised to meet the gorgeous Jamison Radames, a medical director, who is visiting the same nursing home. Theo and Jamison embark on an exciting adventure to find Giorgio. Their search takes them to an old neighborhood, a veterans’ center, a homeless shelter, and all the way from New York to Boston. Along the way, Theo and Jamison uncover a great deal about Giorgio and about themselves.
I laughed and cried out loud when writing this story. Upon publication by Dreamspinner Press, I wondered how we could come up with a cover that would do justice to this romantic and deeply emotional novella. Paul Richmond to the rescue. As you’ll see, Paul created a cover that is captivating and fitting for this story. On the cover is the old photograph Theo received from Nolan—the picture of young Nolan and Giorgio—embedded in Theo’s contemporary Hudson Valley, New York. The photograph beautifully evokes the Poconos Mountain resort of the past as well as Nolan and Giorgio’s first and forbidden love. It perfectly sets the tone for these special characters and this unique story.
After enjoying Paul’s wonderful cover, I hope you will read Finding Giorgio. I’m sure, like me, you will fall in love with Theo and Jamison as they fall in love with each other. And keep an eye out for the upcoming release of Finding Armando, Found At Last Book Two!
