BLURB:
One night in Vegas I gave him my heart… one day later, he broke it.
Look, I’ve never claimed to be a nice guy. I don’t do pretty words, I don’t give polite smiles, and I refuse to be sucked into the sappy bucket of sentimentality that is Christmas in small-town O’Leary. Smiling neighbors, overly decorated trees, a town parade, a Santa contest? Ho ho no. I do shifts as a firefighter, and I go home alone.
I fell into the trap once — that stupid night in Vegas — of believing there was more out there for me. I took a chance on a guy with magical green eyes and a gorgeous smile. The next day, Liam McKnight was gone. He took my heart with him… and left his wedding ring behind.
Except now my once-upon-a-time husband has reappeared with a kid in tow, and there are carols, lights, and cookies everywhere I turn. And worst of all? The spark between us burns brighter than ever, because whatever happened in Vegas definitely didn’t stay there. Liam came to town looking for an ending, but what’s building between us feels an awful lot like a beginning. Too bad it’s going to take more than a dozen interfering O’Learians to convince me to take a second chance on heartache, on love… on us.
REVIEW:
With every book in this series, I grow to love the town of O’Leary New York just a little more!
In The Night we meet a man named Liam who has come to O’Leary to finally close out a chapter of his life that began and ended five years before. It turns out he got married to a man he met in Las Vegas over a wild weekend. They were married in one of those little wedding chapels in a service performed by a man who looked almost exactly nothing like Elvis and had a Russian accent to boot. The man he married, Gideon, is now a firefighter in the tiny town of O’Leary and Liam is in O’Leary to get Gideon to sign off on the divorce papers.
Now, what you wonder is the back story? Why if they got married, are they not together? And why did Liam show up in town with a seven-year old daughter that Gideon never heard of? They met and got married in one long weekend of passion, but you would think something important like a daughter would have been disclosed!
In typical May Archer style, the story builds as it goes. The residents of O’Leary are shocked to learn that Mr. Grumpy Gideon has a husband he has never mentioned, and they are captivated immediately, as was I, with Hazel. It isn’t long before the entire town is playing matchmaker between the two men, working to keep Liam in town and force Gideon to be happy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I loved Hazel. I loved the silliness of the local Santa contest. I want to move to O’Leary New York.
I highly recommend this series. It is light-hearted, with some laugh out loud lines thrown in from time to time. If you like sweet, feel good, happy endings, then this series is for you.
