Welcome back to Brighton, Texas. Where any man can find home.
THE POWER OF THREE
As an emergency room nurse at Brighton General, Samuel Mason spends most of his days caring for the sick and injured, and his nights alone. Until now.
Jack “ Spider” Forrester and Dante Snow have arrived. Retired from the Army, they provide protection to those in need. They’ve come to Brighton to guard Sam’s cousin from a dire threat, but it’s Sam’s world they turn inside out. Jack wears his heart on his sleeve but is no pushover, and Dante is scarred from a past he’d sooner forget. They two are partners in all things, from the bedroom to the office to the street, and they want Sam to join them…for as long as they’re in town. But there is danger ahead, and not just from the type of men these skilled, muscled heroes have sworn to take down. The danger of falling in love.
REVIEW:
My word, you guys need tissues for this one. Holy cow. And Sam needs to be wrapped in bubble wrap or something. Shew. This one had me on pins and needles. But so good. I didn’t know which of these guys I wanted to shake more though. My word, they are all some stubborn mules.
If you’ve read book one, you know Dante and Spider came in the end to help protect Johnny, and kind of Sam. Sam was already majorly hurt by the ex by then, so it really wasn’t about him anymore. If you haven’t read book one, you need to do so. Anyway, Dante and Spider had been together for years, but when they met Sam, they just knew he needed to be a part of their lives. It didn’t mean they didn’t love each other any less. Quite the opposite in fact. Their love just grew even more. For each other and for Sam. But when they originally set up this friends with benefits thing, they knew there would be a time limit on it. Dante and Spider had missions to do and Sam had the hospital. But what none of them counted on was falling in love. So when Dante and Spider snuck out while Sam was sleeping, it sent everything into a bad spiral. On both sides. And now someone is after Sam. And may have killed him. Spider refuses to believe it, but it’s a race against time to see what is really going on.
These hard headed men. I swear. I get Dante’s reasoning to a point. His past life was not an easy one. And he gets scared of intimacy. Spider is the only one he’s really let in until Sam, and with Sam he’s still finding his way. The love is there. He just doesn’t want to admit it or what it could mean. And Spider is used to just following along after Dante. It’s what they’ve always done, considering their ranks in the military. But Spider is ticked that he listened this time. Because had he made Dante really admit what they were all feeling, they all wouldn’t be miserable and with Sam. In this case, I definitely agree with Spider. I get Dante’s past. But at some point, you’ve got to let someone in if you really love them. He did with Spider, so he could have done so with Sam. I get he’s scared. They all are. But if you can’t communicate how you feel to the one you love, if you can’t be completely honest about things, what does that say about you relationship?
Communication is always key. Trust, honesty, communication and listening goes with that. Relationships take work as it is. And if you can’t put the work in even before you’re really committed, it’s not going to bode well for the future. Plus, if you don’t want to be committing past mistakes or mistakes you’ve seen from others, you have to learn to let it go and move on. And stop being a stubborn mule and thinking you know best.
