BLURB:
Take a terrifying look inside the twisted mind of a serial killer in this modern day nod to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.
Sean’s nightmares seem psychically connected to Stephen, a loner who lives in the back of the building. After several grisly murders including a dead body reveal like no other, Sean and best friend Anna set out to expose him as the killer despite warnings from Anna’s boyfriend Danny.
The killer speaks directly to the reader and lives by the chilling words he tells his victims, “I’m the last face you’ll ever see, so you will love me forever.”
REVIEW:
Ok. So I have to warn you. If you’ve read anything of Matt’s, you should know his stuff is horror. If you haven’t, then be warned now. His stuff is so very well written, but it is horror and it is very dark. This one also needs to come with trigger warnings. I don’t want to go into too much detail so I don’t give anything away, but there is neglect, physical and sexual abuse in this and it leads to something else. I can’t say what that part is because it will give stuff away.
Sean and his best friend, Anna, are woken at the sound of screams one night. Only to find out, that the newest neighbor has disappeared. When Sean goes to unclog the garbage chute, Anna helps him and they discover where the body went and what happened to it. And they are all horrified. They have a feeling the all know who it is, but how do they prove it? On top of it, Sean has been sleepwalking and having dreams of fog and dark clouds and watching the killer making his kills. He and Anna, after the latest murder, make a plan to capture the guy for the police, only it doesn’t turn out the way they hoped. It actually turns into Anna’s worst nightmare as she realizes what has really been going on, to a point. And things turns horrid.
I’ve seen the movie Psycho, and let me tell you, this is more horrifying than that. Matt definitely has his horror down pat. He gets you hooked so much into the book that you can’t put it down, even if/when you’re biting your nails and wanting to hide your face like watching a scary movie. But you just have to keep reading. It’s everything a horror should be. It’s dark, twisted, scary and action to make it what it is. This one is just perfect as a horror. The twist in this one will shock you. But when you find out the twist, everything begins to make perfect sense. Except the ending. That one has me a little thrown. When you read it, you’ll understand. And believe me, if you love horrors, you need to read this. I was completely shocked. I had a inkling something wasn’t right with the killer and the way things were happening, but I had no idea it would turn out the way it did. It’s an awesome written book.
I really wish I could say more, but it would really give so much away. Just know that if you like all the murder mystery/horror stuff, this is the perfect book for you. Another great book.
