Shifting Into High Fear
Ghost/god Wes Cooper and his not-life partner, vampire Hudson Rojas, have settled into cohabitation in an upscale part of Toronto. So what if their hoity-toity new neighbors haven’t exactly rolled out the welcome mat for the paranormal pair? Their PI business is booming, and when a suspect they’ve been tailing winds up in the morgue, it’s alongside a rash of other shifters in apparent drug-related fatalities.
Now Wes and Hudson must connect the dots between the shifter deaths and an uptick in brutal vampire attacks across the city. Throw in a surprise visit from Hudson’s niece—who may or may not be on the run from European paranormal police (who may or may not exist)—and guardianship of a teen shifter who might be the key to solving the whole mystery (if only she could recover her memory), and Wes and Hudson have never been busier…or happier.
But when a nightmare from Hudson’s past comes back to haunt him, their weird, little found family is pushed to the brink. Mucking this up would mean Hudson and Wes missing their second chance at happily-forever-afterlife…
REVIEW:
Oh my gah, this book killed me. Oh man. K.i.l.l.e.d. Me. So not fair. It was so good, though, except for that one part. And I can’t say. You have to read to find out. But you better bring tissues with this one, because it is the most intense one of the series. Everything seems to be coming out of the woodwork at these guys, including people from the past that were thought long gone. It’s suspenseful, it’s action packed, it’s got so much going on. And I love this series. Just a bit sad though.
Wes and Hudson were doing alright with their private investigation business. Evan was up and coming in the business, their little family seemed to be growing a little bit. Iksander was doing well, in spite of his attack last book, and it seemed to be going alright. Until, Hud’s old cop boss brought something to his attention that coincided with a case that Wes was working on. And suddenly things were adding up to what was going on. Shifters are dying, by overdoses, which should be impossible. A shifter has now become a small part of their family after another incident. And Hud’s niece, who is supposed to be dead, is now in his home. But what came at the top of that mess, was something no one was expecting. At all. And it’s turning out not good. People, shifters and others are dying left and right. And some are surprising. And they may not make it out alive. None of them.
I have grown to love these characters so much. They have grown into characters I will never forget. I remember when I first saw these books posted, I was so intrigued, and now I’m so glad I’ve gotten a chance to read them. Not getting to be a part of this world would have been a crime lol. But this was the hardest one to read. With everything going on, and it’s a lot, it’s a lot to take in. There are twists and turns in this that just leave you going…..wha??? And it’s so good. Believe me. It made the book so much better. But you better believe you need tissues. Shew. Wes and Hud go through hell and back. Pretty much literally, along with everyone else. There’s so much I want to share but I can’t because it will give so much away. So, I guess I have to leave it at this.
It’s an amazing book and series. It’s packed full of everything you could want. At least for me anyway. I love each of these characters. It’s been so much fun to read. Even if sad. I hope that you all will love these as much as I have.
