TITLE: Howling on Hold
AUTHOR: E.J. Russell
PUBLISHER: Riptide Publishing
LENGTH: 287 pages
RELEASE DATE: January 13, 2020
BLURB:
Sometimes it’s harder to teach a young dog new tricks.
That’s why werewolves embark on a Howling: a three-year rite of passage in which they’re sent to a group residence to wrestle with their wolfy instincts and assimilate into the Wider World. But Tanner Araya’s Howling is almost over, and he could be called back to his remote pack at any moment. His twenty-first birthday might be his last chance to act on his strongest instinct and finally kiss Chase Denney.
Chase is RA at the Howling residence affectionately dubbed “the Doghouse,” and he takes his job seriously. So seriously that when he realized he was developing feelings for a resident, he forced himself to keep Tanner at a distance. But now that Tanner’s twenty-one, he’s not Chase’s charge any longer. They could be friends or—if Chase is lucky—something more. At least until they both return to their home packs for good, as tradition demands.
It would take a miracle for them to get together—especially when the other Doghouse werewolves insist on “helping.”
Warning: Many Frisbees are harmed in this story, forgiveness is not always easier than permission, and the five-second rule does not apply.
REVIEW:
So when I read the blurb for this, I was naturally excited. You know…paranormal, duh. Lol. And I’ve really grown fond of E.J.’s characters. So naturally, I figured I would love this one and I do. But what I love even more, is there are some surprise visitors in this book. ALL in this book and that just made my day even better. To see them all and how things have changed and how they’ve grown, just made my day. And I’ve got to say, even though I love Chase and Tanner, (the MCs), what made this book the absolute best, was Jordan. OH MY GAH! I was laughing so hard, I almost wet myself. I know…TMI. But it’s that funny. He’s a wolf shifter who’s like a dang puppy. It’s hilarious. You just have to read and find out what I mean. It’s the best.
For Tanner, turning 21 wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. With him being of age, it was pretty much time for him to go home and assume role of alpha of his pack. But he doesn’t want that. He doesn’t want to be there, much less the alpha. That place holds nothing but bad memories for him. The loss of his parents and being bullied constantly. He’d much rather find a way to stay near his RA, Chase. But Chase doesn’t seem to feel the same way, and it’s pretty much confirmed for Tanner, But the one good thing I loved about this book, is Tanner finds out his has friends in high places, that really do care about him. They just didn’t know what was going on. And those that did know some of it, were too busy tied up trying to fix what was being broken. It broke my heart for Tanner, having to be alone for so long, but everyone seemed to want to make it up to him. Wanted him to know he had a pack and friends. Even if it wasn’t traditional.
But like I said, the funniest part of it all was Jordan. That boy. Lol. I really do love Tanner and Chase so much but Jordan just made this book for me. I can’t go into detail, because it will give it away, but I’m telling you, that boy just makes this book the absolute best. Just thinking about his stunts has me still laughing so dang hard. This has just been the best book. And even though it technically is showing it’s not a part of a series, I think it kind of is. Because it is definitely a mixing of books. I hope you all love this as much as I do.
