Trying Something New
I’m someone who loves routines. I’ve always been that way. There’s a comfort in the familiar, in knowing what to expect. Or maybe I’m just a massive control freak (yeah, we can leave the “maybe” out there, haha).
The funny thing is that in both reading and writing, I love the unexpected. I read a lot of different genres (though MM romance is the main one), and I love that diversity, that variety in genres, in stories, in characters and settings. Sometimes I’m in the mood for angsty or suspenseful, other times I want romantic or slow burn. Sometimes I want a thriller or a non-fiction book, other days I’m more in the mood for a sappy romance or a genre I’ve never read before.
In writing, I’m the same. I’ve written a lot of genres over the years, though under different names. I wrote plenty of non-fiction on a variety of topics, both traditionally published and self-published and for blogs and magazines as well. Loved it. I’ve written young adult, MF romance, even a thriller—though all unpublished.
Now I write MM romance, but there’s still that desire in me to push myself and try different things, different subgenres. It’s why I started writing mpreg as well, why I’ve explored different topics and kinks. It’s also why I loved writing my Ignite trilogy.
Ignite Series
My Ignite trilogy is very different than most of my books. It’s a slow burn, first of all, which I’m not exactly known for, haha. But these three men (it’s an MMM) needed this, needed the time to go slow.
It’s also set in a different universe, an unnamed alternate world where being gay (or bi, trans, etc.) will get you sent to a reintegration camp. This is where our three main characters meet.
Now, many MM romance readers stop here and decide this is not their cup of tea. Because let’s face it, this may sound a little depressing, right? Then I throw in an alien invasion, and they’re even more reluctant.
And I get it. I do. The Ignite series is not your standard variety MM romance. It’s edgy and different and raw and suspenseful…but it’s also sweet and romantic and has all the feels. These three men, they’re amazing. Damaged by their past, but so determined to not only survive but thrive, even when the world around them is on fire. Their journey is so worth it…but you have to be willing to try something new.
My Promise
Here’s what I can promise you. Yes, this series has some violence. There is an alien invasion after all, and those fuckers didn’t come to play nice. But no harm will come to the main characters. Promise.
The focus of the story is also not on the aliens or even on the oppressing regime they live under. It’s on them, on how they get to know each other, how they survive, the decisions they have to make, and the way they’re dealing with it all. Promise.
But most of all, this is a love story. The first book is super slow burn and only has a kiss (though it’s one hell of a kiss, haha). But things heat up in the second book, and in the third book… Well, you’ll find out. But it’s well worth it, and the series will end with a very happy, very satisfying happy end. Promise.
Smolder, the second book in the Ignite trilogy, will release tomorrow, and book three won’t be far behind. I hope you’ll give this amazing trilogy a chance, even if it’s different and you don’t usually read dystopian or sci fi. You won’t regret it. Promise.
Curious about this trilogy? Here’s a longer excerpt from Smolder, book two:
Austin curled his big hand around Mack’s neck, and the strong grip felt like a comfort. “What’s bothering you, baby?”
How he loved it when Austin called him that. Every time he or Tan used a special name for him, it made the butterflies in his belly take flight all over again. Encouraged by that feeling, he said, “I was a little upset with myself for not taking advantage of the opportunity…and for you know, ruining the mood?”
It took Austin a second or two, but then a wide smile broke out across his face. “As far as I’m concerned, the opportunity is still there…and my mood hasn’t been ruined at all.”
“Please don’t tell me the thought of an erupting volcano turns you on,” Mack teased, proud of himself for the slightly sexual innuendo. See? He was getting the hang of this whole flirting thing. He had a great teacher in Tan, that was for sure.
Austin grinned. “An erupting volcano not so much, but I can think of something else erupting that would definitely hold my attention.”
Mack grinned with him, and his body tingled at the look they shared, which quickly changed into something heated. Austin’s grip on his neck tightened. “You know, baby, the only thing I regret about the three of us, about the circumstances under which we’ve met, is that it’s hard to take my time with the two of you. I want to give you so much more than I’m capable of right now. You deserve more. Better.”
His words reached deep inside Mack, fueling the simmering heat in his body. “We all deserve better than this. All we can do is hold on to each other and share what we are capable of.”
