BLURB:
“I was in free fall the moment we met, and I just keep falling.”
Small town police officer Silas Sloane knows every resident of O’Leary, New York. He’s earned the love and respect of its citizens, though living under the small-town microscope grates on him. But though he’s good at his job, there’s one thing he’s not good at: commitments… Until Everett.
Widower Everett Maior, O’Leary’s newest citizen, came to the small town kicking and screaming. He never wanted to become primary caretaker for his grandfather and has no interest in living the provincial life. Snarky and superstitious, he’s proficient at keeping people at a distance… Until he lays eyes on Silas.
Strange disappearances are plaguing O’Leary, though, even as Silas and Everett find their growing attraction undeniable. Can they find their way to a future together, even as ghosts from the past threaten to tear them apart?
REVIEW:
I stumbled onto this series on Amazon and thought this first book sounded interesting. The rest is history. I think I’ve read every book available in the series and I’ll be reviewing them each in turn.
I knew from almost page one of The Fall, that I was going to enjoy this author and this book. We meet this man named Everett Maior who is being forced by his mother to return to his family’s home town of O’Leary, New York to take care of his elderly Grandfather who has fallen and broken his leg.
Everett is on his way to O’Leary through a series of sharp turns deep in a heavily forested area when a man stumbles onto the road in front of him. He turns quickly and misses the man, but in the process goes off the road and wrecks his car. There he is in the dark. Just him and his cat in its cat carrier. He stumbles up onto the road but there isn’t a man in sight. Was it a ghost? With no other options, Everett is soon on his way down the road, dragging a suitcase and the cat carrier with him.
Along comes the proverbial white knight. Silas Sloane is O’Leary’s favorite police officer, and he is rushing back along the same road from a date gone bad when he got a call to return to O’Leary for an unrelated incident. He sees the young man stumbling along and picks him up. There begins the tale and let me tell you… it dragged me in, and I stayed up way to late finishing the book.
I loved the snarky attitude of Everett, and the total commitment phobe that Silas was. Both men circled each other cautiously, all while the town was dealing with the mysterious disappearance of two men, one a camper from out of town, and one a local forest ranger. The mystery and the interplay of Everett and Silas worked well together and kept the story moving quickly.
Enough spoilers. I highly recommend this one!
