BLURB:
It started with an anonymous post by someone who didn’t want to live anymore. I read it over and over again, unable to get it out of my mind. What if my brother Johnny had posted something like this before he’d taken his own life? Would someone have been able to save him?
“When I was so far down I couldn’t even see the light, a stranger reached in to save me”~ Nox
I didn’t have anything to live for, until a kind stranger pulled me back from the brink. With physical and emotional scars I have nowhere to turn now but to that same stranger who saved my life without realizing it. But as my feelings for Adam grow, will I ever be anything other than a surrogate for the brother he couldn’t save? Am I even worthy of his love?
REVIEW:
Depression can be really dangerous. If not attended to, it can potentially lead to suicide. We have to always be aware of the behavior of our family and friends. We have to encourage them to open up, to talk. We have to make them feel that they are important. And that they are not alone. It is a constant vigil, but if we really love someone, we have to do it.
Adam owns his own tattoo parlor. His younger brother took his own life a few years back. He thought that if his brother had someone to talk to he might still be alive. Also, his best friend was in love with his brother during that time. And the reason why he is very attentive to someone who posted that he does not want to live anymore. Adam kept thinking about his brother, Johnny.
Phoenix/Nox is living a life of hell until he found the courage to say enough is enough! Where before he thought life couldn’t get any better and thought of ending it, an attentive and caring friend answering and sending him messages over the phone helps him get through each day. It feels really good to be cared for.
When he decides to leave his previous life, Phoenix/Lennox decided to go to Seattle where his friend owns a tattoo parlor. He applied for an apprenticeship without Adam knowing he was Phoenix.
This is a story of courage and survival. There are triggers involving substance abuse, prostitution and domestic violence. Lennox is determine to be clean and productive now that he is given another chance. Adam has finally found someone to be happy with.
Mr. Kenneth Obi really did justice to all the different characters in the story. And I would like to note that there are more than a few characters that he had to voice. The different inflections he used in voicing them are amazing. It is wonderful to listen as the story comes alive through his voice. The characters shine with the narrator’s voice and it makes the story more “friendly” and relatable somehow. Congratulations Mr. Obi!
