Monthly Guest Post—Andrew Q. Gordon—A New Decade To Come

It’s the end of the year (and decade), which means it’s time to become reflective and think about what to do in the future. Or not.

I wanted to this year’s (and decade’s) last post to end  on a positive note. I’ll admit, it’s been hard to craft a post for today that is positive and uplifting. Things have been a chaotic mess in the MM Romance world. There is a lot of anger (much of it justified) and bad tastes. So I’ve struggled.

But here are somethings that happened in the 2010’s that can’t be taken from me.

I got published and have started to build a following.

I’ve grown in my craft and profession. I’m a better writer than I was before the decade began. I’m also much better versed in the business of being a writer.

I’ve made friends, both on line and in person, with people I would never have met had I not published a book. Amazingly generous people who will help you even as their world is not all rainbows and unicorn farts.

I’ve gotten better at taking more control of my destiny. With the return of my rights, I’m learning how to do this by myself. This gives me more control over my books, my money and my future.

Last, and most importantly, I’ve been inspired to be a better person. Despite being dealt terrible hands, people have risen above their adversity and moved forward. They lead by example. Prove that if we believe in ourselves we are stronger than we know.

As I move into next year, I am going to keep the positive in mind. Build on the good that has come from the adversity we leave behind.

To quote from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Be excellent to each other.

Happy New Year and New Decade.

~Enjoy the journey.

Andrew Q. Gordon wrote his first story back when yellow legal pads, ball point pens were common and a Smith Corona correctable typewriter was considered high tech. Adapting with technology, he now takes his MacBook somewhere quiet when he wants to write.

Since devouring The Lord of the Rings as a preteen, he has been a fan of all things fantastical. His imagination has helped him create works of high fantasy, paranormal thrills and touch of the futuristic. He also writes the occasional contemporary story.

He currently lives in the Washington, D.C. area with his husband of twenty-four years. Together they are raising their daughter and three dogs. Andrew tries to squeeze writing time in around his most important jobs, being husband and ‘Papa.’ Along with teaching how to kick a soccer ball or ride a scooter, he has become fluent in cartoon characters and children’s books.
