REVIEW:
I so love Elvis. I loved him in Blue Christmas from the minute I read about his blue hair and sashaying behind. His sassy attitude and love for life. He’s just the best. And having Jonah as his husband, has just made things all that much better. But as much as I love these two, it can be sad as well. And this was a hard hitting book. Even with the sexiness and just plain fun.
Elvis had everything all set to surprise his husband for the anniversary of their meeting. They officially married and stuff in February, but they met over the Christmas holidays a year earlier and Elvis wanted to celebrate, and his husband was hard pressed to deny his husband anything. But this year was going to come with some problems, in the name of Jonah’s homophobic, bigoted parents. They try to buy Elvis off, to make him get away from Jonah, and from ‘tarnishing’ their name. After Elvis lost his cool and kicked them out, he got to thinking that maybe Jonah would be better off without him. He didn’t want Jonah to lose his inheritance or anything, so maybe it would be best if he just left. And he did.
UGHHHH! Once again, nosy busybodies, with no respect for anyone different and a hatred over something stupid, has gotten in the way of something beautiful. I will never understand bigotry or homophobia. Each of us is made to be different. This isn’t the book 1984. Life isn’t the book 1984, although with the way people act, you see how they want things. We should be embracing each differentiality (I can’t spell that word) and everything associated with being eccentric or what have you. I think that’s why I love Elvis so much. He embraces who he is. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his own insecurities and such as obvious by him running. But he’s proud of who he is. And when he stops to think, that’s one of the things Jonah loves so much about him. Because he is proud of who and what he is. No apologies. And I love that Jonah, as macho as he looks, doesn’t even blink at the way his flashy husband is. He loves it and has no problems whatsoever in showing anyone how he feels about his eccentric husband. And I love that. I love their relationship. Doesn’t mean there aren’t ups and downs or fights or such, and it doesn’t mean that at times trust isn’t broken a bit, but because their love is true, they both truly want to do whatever it takes to make sure it stays the marriage they want it to be. Which means talking sometimes about uncomfortable stuff.
Never let someone else ruin who you are. We are all individuals with our own minds and dreams and desires. Never let someone blow out your light or try to take from who you are. You be you.
