One of the best things about the winter holidays is that I get to make a dreary Canadian winter a little bit prettier. I won’t lie. I like sparkles. I like glittery things. I like colourful lights. I am a big fan of Christmas decorating.
So writing a story about two young men who have none of that, in a city that is extra grim at this time of year, had to be about those guys finding something to be bright about without any of the trappings or glitter or abundant food and drink.
They had to be their own holiday cheer, even when things looked bleak. I think that’s the essence of what the holidays are all about. Finding the brightness and the cheer in our lives when sometimes, we really don’t feel it. Remembering that even when everything is scary and the future looks sketchy, there are reasons to be grateful and joyous, even if the only reason is that we can’t sustain unrelenting worry and stress.
Seb and Cody aren’t in the greatest of places, but just when they’re clinging to the end of that rope, they discover each other and take that leap of faith to let go together and hope they land not too damaged.
One thing is for sure. I see a lot of sparkle in their future. I can imagine checking in with these two again in the not-so-distant future to see how they’re making out. For now, they have each other, and that’s the best thing to start with on Christmas Eve.
BLURB:
Sebastian’s ideal Christmas looks nothing like his picture-perfect childhood experiences, but neither should it be spent wandering the cold streets alone and homeless.
Cody has no time for the holidays if he wants to eat. He needs a new model for his next commission–and he needs him now.
Seb can’t go home and Cody’s model took his pay and left. Both men are in dire straits, so when they meet over soup-kitchen chili they each see the answer to their problems in the other.
They never expected more than a means to an end, but now, that perfect Christmas might be as simple as seeing what’s right in front of them.

Jaime Samms is a plaid-hearted Canadian who spends the too-long winters writing stories about love between men and the too-short summers digging in the garden.
A multi-published author whose work has been translated into French, Italian, and German, Jaime delights in the intricate dance of words that leads her through tales of the lost and broken hearted men she writes about to the love stories that find and mend them.
She also makes pretty things with yarn and fabric scraps because in her world, no heart is too broken to love, and nothing is too worn or tired it can’t be made beautiful. All it takes is determination and the ability to see life a little bit left of center.
