Julian “Quinn” Quintero, a gruff, tough Miami SWAT officer, has been injured on the job, and all he’s looking for is a little peace and quiet to recover – difficult to achieve with his large Cuban family. An adventure in picking up his prescriptions puts him in the path of his geeky, brownie-baking neighbor, Spencer Morgan. Spencer sweeps into Quinn’s life like a tropical storm of sunshine and rainbows. Not surprisingly, it’s chaos at first sight. Quinn’s in need of a little tender loving care, and Spencer decides he’s just the man for the job. Their very different lives might clash, but they might also find some common ground – and maybe more.
REVIEW:
Beware of Geeks Bearing Gift was just as cute as the title suggests.
Spencer Morgan has been crushing on his neighbour for a while, but it seems that Quin doesn’t know he exists. And their first real meeting doesn’t quite go of as planned; Spencer is a bit of a menace – an accidental one. You know the type where they turn around and accidentally knocks something over, which in turn knocks something else over causing this domino effect that quickly renders a room in chaos in just a few seconds. That’s Spencer for you. And on this occasion the injured Quinn is the victim of said klutziness.
Quinn is recovering from injuries he got from his last mission with the Miami SWAT team. Some scheming from his family gets him into Spencer’s orbit and from then on he has a hard time to leave the man baking brownies in only his underwear and a superhero apron.
Spencer and Quinn were cute together. They clicked from the beginning – baring that one incident. Their romance was uncomplicated and drama free and left me with this feel good feeling. For being such a short story the characters and plot were well rounded and captivating. It was a great start of my day.
Michael Stellman did a great job with this book. He has different voices for the characters which enable the listener to always know who’s speaking. He also captured the hearts of both Spencer and Quinn. You could really see Spencer’s melon debacle in front of you, and feel his interest in Quinn before they met. For Quinn he really captured his gruffness and fascination with Spencer. And the dancing scene was just brilliant and had me smiling wide for a long time.
If you only have a few moments for your next read and are looking for something short but sweet, you should definitely give this book a try.
