Fighter – A Survivor story
Dedication and smarts have given Blair Cummings a leg up in the Bureau. His job is all-consuming, but rewarding. It doesn’t leave much time for a love life though, not that Blair believes in love. At nearly thirty, he’s only ever been in one long- term relationship due to his inability to commit to anything other than his job and his family.
Born into a family that is as successful as they are hateful, Howard Manning Tullor Junior ran so far away from his last name that he wound up in the arms of Satan himself. Freedom comes at a high price but it’s one Mannie is willing to pay, setting him on a path that leads him to a quiet, laid -back FBI agent.
Their attraction is unexpected, and yet, welcomed. Blair seems to have finally found something worth fighting for, but Mannie, still haunted by ghosts of the past, wonders if he’ll ever be able to move on. The two are working toward their future, but can a budding romance survive when past and present collide?

Murder, mystery and intrigue.
I’m often asked where my plot idea for this series came from. And to that question my answer is my macabre fascination with true crime shows. I love the ID (Investigation Discovery) channel, Dateline and 20/20 and any other true crime documentary I can feast my eyes upon. I was a rabid fan of the original Law & Order as well as Criminal Minds before they fired or lost all the really good characters. In fact, it was an episode of Criminal Minds that first gave me my idea for Survivor, the 1st book in this trilogy. I think as a reader I thoroughly enjoy murder, mystery and intrigue in my reads and if there’s an element of fact or reality in there as well, even better! So that’s what I set out to do with this series. The danger that’s evident in the first 2 books (Survivor and Lover) is not present in this book as this story is more about one of those young men affected by that danger and how he fought hard to overcome his past, to move on and find love, finally. Mannie was such a complex character to write, to get down his sort of idiosyncrasy behavior, the little ticks he has.
There’s also the Law enforcement aspect of the series with the FBI and Police which I did lots of research on. Also, my macabre fascination with those true crime shows gave me bountiful info on various members of Law enforcement. Have you guys seen that ID (Investigation Discovery) miniseries special about the Unibomber? It was also about one of the first FBI Agents to join what would become the BAU. I modeled Rory from this character somewhat and put aspects of what I learned into Blair’s character as well. In my mind, Blair was always sort of this laid back, quiet kinda guy. But then he lays eyes on Mannie and it’s as if the stars have aligned! So, yes, there is an insta-love aspect to this book, but it’s done very tastefully, gracefully and at a steady pace. Not just “Hi, I’m Blair, bend over, I love you so much and I’ll never let you leave!” No. But they do fall hard and fast.
Nick J Russo carries on his masterful narration for this series and I have to say, I think he outdid himself with this one. He really captured the essence of Mannie from his lower tone voice due to his injury with just a slight growl. And Blair’s almost constant jovial tone, only really loosing it a little bit toward the end and Nick pulled in that emotion and anger and blew it into every word.
