Can the spirit of Christmas transform a modern-day Scrooge?
Jordan Fairchild’s been harbouring a secret crush on his boss for almost two years, but he’s starting to ask himself why. Conrad Ryder might be as hot as hell but as Christmas draws near, he’s less Santa Claus and more Scrooge.
When an angry phone call shatters Conrad’s well-laid plans to escape Christmas, he’s faced with nowhere to go and nobody to be with. Cut off from family and friends, Christmas is suddenly looking as cold and bleak as the snow-covered city streets.
Entranced by the spirit of the season, Jordan is determined to make the festivities magical — even if his only companion is a three-legged, Christmas jumper-wearing dachshund.
A chance meeting brings Jordan and Conrad together on Christmas morning. Will Jordan’s Conrad-coloured dreams come true? And will Conrad, with Jordan’s help, rediscover the joy of Christmas to make this his best Christmas Present ever?
REVIEW:
Conrad is a bit of a jerk! That is to put it mildly He’s the boss from hell. Never a good word for his PA – and he’s been through a plethora of assistant PAs as well. But Jordan keeps everything running, despite Conrad’s completely unreasonable demands. But when his boy toy of the moment cancels Conrad’s Christmas plans, he’s even more unbearable.
As the day nears, Conrad sees something he shouldn’t and realizes that maybe he has not appreciated Jordan and he realizes he’d be lost without him. He resolves to be better and try to pay attention to what’s going on. Two things happen that throw him way off. Firstly, there is aggressive flirting with Jordan by a partnered finance employee that makes Jordan uncomfortable where he steps in for not altogether harmonious workplace reasons. Secondly, Jordan gets a call that causes Conrad to jump to the wrong conclusions.
When on Christmas day, both Conrad and Jordan run into each other at the office, they end up agreeing to spend the rest of the day together at Jordan’s including his crazy little three-legged dog. Jordan’s got the full dinner running, holiday movies galore and some super sweet fizzy wine to share and Conrad is actually happy to join in. We understand more about Conrad’s past as the day goes on and realize how much he has covered up with his gruff exterior. When a lot goes sideways, Conrad surprises Jordan with his response. In the end, they are both pretty pleased with how the day turns out 🙂
This is a super cute story that takes in the same universe as the authors, Barista Boys and Jack & Rory series and readers will recognize references to those series. I loved Jordan so much. He’s an adorable character and his love for his little dog is so sweet. His festive spirit and positive outlook are something we could all use more of on the daily. Conrad is a bit of a tough nut. We do learn the source of his hard exterior, but through his friendship with his boyhood pal and his realization that Jordan is the best thing that’s ever happened to him, he grows so much in this short span of time, it’s hard not to love him in the end. Just a lovely story that has some really funny moments and some tender moments to put you in the holiday spirit. Enjoy!
