Jed and Dakota couldn’t be more different.
One’s an overly cautious, nerdy workaholic who just can’t seem to loosen up. The other’s a hot, tattooed bar owner who doesn’t take anything very seriously.
An undeniable attraction flares between them when they get stuck in a cozy cabin right before the holidays. All too soon though, the storm passes and they’re back out in the real world. There are a million reasons why this should be nothing more than a weekend fling, including the fact that Jed’s life is in San Francisco and Dakota’s is in the Sierras. Plus, Jed’s demanding career doesn’t exactly allow time for a social life.
But when something feels so right, can either man just walk away?
Or will two total opposites figure out how to make it work, despite all the obstacles in their path?
This light-hearted holiday romance is set in the world of Alexa Land’s Firsts and Forever Series. While long-time readers will recognize some familiar faces, this novella can be read as a stand-alone.
REVIEW:
I’m going to start by confessing that I love everything this woman has ever written, so I might not be completely impartial.
In Comfort & Joy, Ms. Land transports us to her world of a large mafia family and the myriad of individuals who make up their universe, for a Christmas tale set in the mountains. In this tale we’re back with the original characters from her First and Forever books, this time focusing on Jed, the quieter, geekier (is that a word?) brother of Jessie from one of the previous books. Jed is a kind of boring analyst in a high paying, but deadly boring job. He brings his laptop with him when he goes away for a Christmas vacation with his brother and the Dombruso clan, but things go awry quickly.
Jed takes a wrong turn and ends up in the mountains far from where the family gathering is supposed to take place and somehow ends up stuck in the mud on the side of the road and jumping up and down in the middle of the road in just his briefs when a pickup truck comes down the road.
There begins the interaction between Jed and Dakota. There is some typical Alexa fun silliness along the way with Nana air-dropping a package to the two ice bound men, but as always, I loved the story and the characters.
My only hope is that the two men get a longer story somewhere along the way. They deserve more. We know how this one ends… but I and probably a lot of readers out there want more!
I highly recommend this short Christmas based story. You don’t have to have read her Firsts and Forever series, but if you haven’t… have you been living under a rock? You need to!
