The vampire spirit Gray and his human host Caleb have sworn never to drink from a human again. Not only does she have a bite mark on her throat, but security camera footage reveals her murderer looks exactly like Caleb, down to the clothes he was wearing that night.
Can Caleb and Gray clear their names, not only to the police but to John? Or will the new life they’ve built in New Orleans come crashing down around them?
REVIEW:
First, I think it highly unlikely that this book can be enjoyed in isolation – it is part of a very long series, which follows Caleb, Gray and John from early introductions through shocks, surprises and an ever deepening relationship. Along the way they have constantly searched for information about Gray’s nature and the mechanics of his connection with Caleb. Some of that is reflected in this book. There are also numerous mentions of incidents that happened previously.
That being said, for any fans of John, Caleb and Gray, this book will not disappoint. Although it maintains a slower pace than some of the previous books, it is packed with just as many twists and turns, mysteries and challenges. It isn’t a long book but there is certainly enough story packed in to make it feel as if it is.
I fell in love with Gray, John and Caleb from Book 1 and have remained a staunch fan ever since. The trio are unique and have remained fresh, amusing and thought provoking. Their story has been a twisting, and even a twisted one but through it all they have been strong together.
The writing is beautifully smooth and evocative and there is far more detail and emotional depth than one might expect from a book of this length. Yet again, our friends come up against an unknown foe and find themselves battling on a field where the goalposts keep changing. This seems to be echoed in John’s life, where mystery has been stirred up and apparently ends in tragedy.
Anyone who is a fan of Jordan Hawk, or SPECTR, should definitely read this book. Readers who are new to this series should backtrack and get all the previous ones. You will not be disappointed. This author is highly skillful and on my favorites list with the position only being strengthened by this latest installment. I loved it.
