REVIEW:
I was wondering how Ms. Blake would continue this series, since the epilogue at the end of book three showed you a glimpse into the future of the pack and its members. Well, the solution was easy. Sidestep the story, shortly after the showdown in book three and before the epilogue and focus on new characters. I loved the little mountain lion shifter in the previous books, and now we’re focusing on three other members of his pack that survived. We met them first in the epilogue, and I wondered who the heck they were. Now I know.
Joseph Anderson enjoys his time in the woods and away from his hectic, but very successful real estate career. He has it all, a big house and money… but no one to share it with. He also enjoys the remote home in the woods that he also owns which enables him to spend time living almost right in the forest. One day he hears cries in the woods and finds two little boys and a dying mountain lion. His world is shaken to the core when the mountain lion shifts into a woman. And not just any woman, but the sister of the boy he secretly was in love with all those years ago. Her dying request is that he find Dominick and reunite him with his nephews.
Joseph is soon able to track down the very suspicious Dominick, who is currently overseas working as a US Marshall and quite surprised to hear from Joseph after all these years. It turns out that Dominick also had feelings for Joseph but left because it was forbidden to reveal that he was a shifter to a human.
Dominick quickly returns to the states and the two men are reunited, and Dominick investigates the compound where his former pack of mountain lions lived. Everyone is dead. We already knew this of course since the events were in a previous book in the series, but Dominick didn’t know what was going on, and the smell of wolf is everywhere. Did the wolves kill his pack? Dominick had had a falling out with his family years before but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t avenge them.
I enjoyed getting to know Dominick and Joseph and the boys. I now want a mountain lion shifter cub or two of my own.
As I said on the previous reviews, read this series. It is enjoyable and moves along very well. I’m not sure if there will be more? If not I’m happy enough, but if so… I’ll be happily reading them!
