What if this is the last time we lie like this?
Uncertainty is keeping Ellery Luker awake at night and robbing him of his appetite. It’s been five days since the love of his life and partner of twenty-five years, Jools, went to the doctor. Five days since the biopsy. Five days of going crazy with worry and what ifs?
What if Jools suffer from the same disease that stole Ellery’s mother when he was just eleven? What if all Ellery’s worst fears come true?
What if …?
REVIEW:
Once again, Nell writes a short story that packs a wallop. It makes you happy and cry at the same time. And I love it. It doesn’t take much for a story to make an impact and with this one she’s done it again.
When life hands you stressful stuff, we often worry and stress and do the ‘what ifs’. It’s not healthy, but we are human. And in this story Ellery and Jools are going through a crisis. Well, Ellery is panicking worse that Jools. He can’t imagine his life without the man of his dreams. But what if this biopsy reveals the worst. He already lost a family member to cancer, what if he loses another?
It’s a short but impactful story. Even if the what ifs come true, we have to remember to make the most of the time we have and keep going. Remember every good thing. Remember every special moment. And if the what ifs aren’t true, remember the good as well. Never take life for granted. Always show the people you love how much you love them. Always be a team. A team for life, to get through thick and thin. Even if it’s just your friend. I love these two and the bond they formed over 25 years. It’s still as special today as it was then and for them, that’s what matters. No matter the outcome.
