BLURB:
Garrett Coleman spent most of his adolescence crushing on Finn Sweeney—until that Ultimate Dream Guy image got obliterated during senior year. Garrett’s since gone out of his way to avoid the sexy ginger, instead throwing his energy behind his dance career while supporting his mother through her cancer diagnosis.
Finn Sweeney used to think of Garrett as just his kid brother’s best friend, but after an intense exchange at a high school party, things got a little…weird. Despite that, when their two families decide to get together for the holidays for the first time in years, Finn can’t say no. But he’s fully prepared for this to be awkward as hell.
When Finn and Garrett lay eyes on each other for the first time in their adult lives, all bets are off. Finn is completely captivated by Garrett and getting to know the man he’s become is now his top priority. Playing catch-up with Finn makes Garrett truly see him beyond the childhood fantasy he’s held onto all these years. Finn is real and vulnerable…and hot as hell.
Garrett and Finn can’t seem to keep their hands off each other, so they decide to bury the hatchet between them for the remainder of the visit.
After all, it’s only a holiday fling.
Until it becomes something more.
REVIEW:
Childhood crush becomes more. I am sure this has happened to most of us. It happened to me when I was younger. First it will just be admiration, then infatuation/crush, and we think we are in love. I think it is a rite of passage that everyone goes through. Most of us would grow out of it as we become older, but for some people, it develops into more and might lead to unrequited love. And then comes avoidance which is sad especially if you both belong to families who have been close ever since.
Finn was the older brother of Garrett’s best friend, Rory. They used to follow him around when they were younger. But for Garrett, it became more than just a crush. Finn became his “dream guy!” Finn though, was oblivious to his presence, or if not, just didn’t really see him at all.
After six years, both their families are doing an old tradition again, that of spending the holidays together in a chalet. There were awkward moments, punctuated by Finn bringing his latest boyfriend/fling along. Garrett’s mother has gone through a health scare so this sort-of reunion is very special and momentous to their family especially.
But also something happened six years before that made Finn and Garrett wary with each other. Maybe it is time to come clean and get over it. When Finn’s “boyfriend/fling” left for a show abroad, they got the chance to say what’s been bothering them and started to get to know each other again. It became more but then the holidays will soon be over, and then what? They have to decide if the other person is worth all the effort, and if so, then “go for it!”
Ms. Christina Lee really has an engaging way of telling her stories. She makes her tales relatable, so much so that the readers can just continue reading it through. I myself read this sweet story all the way through in a few hours (doing tasks in between). The story just pulls you in. The circumstances are realistic enough that the readers can totally understand it. This tale has sweetness, low angst, family, tradition and so much love! Now I can’t help but think of how things will pan out in her next book.
