BLURB:
When you’re a warlock, proving your worth can be fatal.
Evrain Brookes had thought that being a warlock was about genetics—a freak offshoot of evolution that somehow allowed him to manipulate the elements. So when his godfather explains there’s a deeper purpose for warlocks being around, one that stretches back into the reaches of time, Evrain is intrigued.
Warlocks have been using their abilities to tweak the course of history for the better since records began but before Evrain can be allowed to fulfill his destiny, he has to pass a test. This challenge takes him and his life partner, Dominic Castine, back to Scotland, to the Isle of Skye. What they both face there will determine the course of their future.
Evrain has no way of knowing if he will prevail, but both their lives depend on it.
REVIEW:
“Um, Ev…?”“What?”“I need my dick back.”“But I wanna keep it,” Evrain whined, making Dominic chuckle. “You’re half asleep. You can have it back when we’re in bed.”
I swear I almost fell OFF my bed laughing at this conversation. It was so funny. I love the chemistry and the sassiness between Dom and Evrain. It’s hilarious, but it’s also made them grow a lot stronger. But, just when they think they might have a bit of respite, it’s time for Evrain’s tests of power. And it’s a doozy. If you’ve been keeping up with this series, you know they’ve been through a hell of a lot already, but this is a test of power like no other. It not only tests the magic, but their bonds. It’s a wonderful piece of writing and I’m so glad I’ve finally gotten to read this series.
Things have been quiet, finally, for a bit. Until Dom calls Evrain to come see something that has cropped up. It’s scary not knowing what it is and scarier when they find out. This is Evrain’s test of powers. But it’s a test beyond all tests. To test their bonds, his magic and so much more. Evrain doesn’t know if he can do it or not, despite being told he’s pretty much the most powerful warlock now. And this test almost gets him. Until the bond allows Dom to give him what he needs to pass. But even though he passes, it doesn’t come without risks. It’s taxing to his body and leaves him in a very vulnerable state while his magic is tapped out. And with natural disasters on the rise, Dom is very worried. And it’s going to take all Evrain has, with the help of everyone else, to fix it all. But will the price be too steep to pay for Evrain in order to save millions?
I think even with all these two have been through, this was probably the worst and yet the best for them. They are both young and frightened in their ways of what is happening and what could happen to them. And thinking about being without the other half of you is a sobering thought. But yet, it’s all they’ve been through that has strengthened the bond they have to where they are as strong as they are. It doesn’t mean there’s not a lot left to learn or more ways to grow, but they are growing in leaps and bounds at all that is being thrown at them. Evrain is pushing his limits to the boundaries and beyond and is proving why he’s the most powerful. He’s also growing up and learning to think quick on his feet in order to fix what needs to be done. And if he can’t, then Dom is there to help him. I don’t envy them in the positions they’ve been in, but I can say I’d be damn proud to call them family to watch them grow as they have from book 1. And even the new warlock and partner introduced in this one adds another element of snark and fun, but shows how they are making their own family with each other. They respect each other, work well together and I love it.
This has been one incredible series. I love what L.M. writes. She’s always a one-click for me and books like this prove why. I hope this isn’t the end of the series yet.
