BLURB:
Blood runs soul-deep, but found families are forever.
Cormac hasn’t been the same since the night the High Moon Pack was attacked. With his magic weakened, he’s consumed by a bloodlust he hasn’t felt since he first became a vampire. His need to replenish his power makes him a danger to his last remaining family member, and his hunger makes him careless. Feeding from pack beta Liam Benson was supposed to slake his appetite, not leave him craving more.
Liam is drawn to Cormac in ways he can’t explain and as the fight to protect the pack he loves reaches a critical point, his connection to Cormac deepens in a way neither wolf nor vampire anticipated. Will Cormac’s role in the final showdown against the dark forces threatening the pack sever the bond Liam and Cormac have started to weave?
Simon, Gray, and Cormac must fight a being history says shouldn’t exist—one with all three types of magic. The pack must use all their resources to combat the mysterious triad, even turning to the mysterious Conclave of Mages for help. As they learn more about this terrifying dark threat, protecting the pack proves to be riddled with challenges and sacrifices. While Gray attempts to hold his traumatized pack together, Cormac struggles to reconcile his past failures with his current desires, and Simon must attempt the impossible: an alliance between mind, body, and soul.
REVIEW:
I’m really enjoying this series, and I know there is another book after the trilogy, so I know it goes on.
In Soul Magic, Ms. Blake focuses on the vampire Cormac and his building desire for blood. What could be causing it? His only source of comfort seems to be the wolf shifter Liam. But Liam is a crucial member of the pack. Cormac is Simon’s many times removed grandfather. Can he be welcomed as part of the pack? I loved getting to know these two characters better. The dynamic between the two was interesting and there was the desire for more on both men’s parts. Then there was Liam’s solution to Cormac’s blood desire.
I really loved how the story built with Simon and the rest of his extended pack/family. When the identity of the bad guy was revealed, I had kind of guessed that that was who it might be, but I wasn’t certain. Along the way there was a totally unexpected death of a beloved side character which caught me by surprise. I was sad when I read that part.
The story continued to build, and the bad guy continued to be evil and became more intrusive on the pack. All of it building to the final showdown.
I liked the ending and getting to get a glimpse into the pack’s future. I didn’t want it to end, but with the epilogue it was obviously over. So… what could that book four that was already advertised be about? Of course, since I had it on my kindle already, I immediately began reading that book. I’ll save those details for my next review!
I highly recommend this series. Begin with book one and work your way through. They build on each other and you need the background. I love this author, and if you haven’t been reading her works, this series is a good place to start.
