What if someday you wake up and the one person you can’t have is the one you want the most?
My name is Nathaniel Preston. Second son of the Preston estate.
I’ve been raised to be perfect, to be ahead of every game, to do no wrong. Sem, my crass and vain older half-brother, is the complete opposite of me. All he seeks is his next high. To get there, he cheats, blackmails, and seduces.
Which wouldn’t be a problem, if one day he didn’t decide to tape me in a very compromising position…
REVIEW:
Rich kids, as so many of us assume, always get what they want most of the time – they are spoiled and they spend money like there is no tomorrow. Money is of no consequence to them. And maybe because their own parents are too busy working or involved in their businesses, most of the time they are given what they want to avoid drama and such. And these kids get into all kinds of mischief, most of it not so wholesome at all. They get themselves into trouble and things get worse. But can we really blame them? They are given everything and are left to their own devices, such as drugs, booze, sex in copious amounts whenever and wherever they want.
Aside from the main characters being rich, this story also deals with a taboo topic, that of half-brothers, a few years in age difference, who are very different. A bad-boy who is volatile, easy to anger, and older brother vs the top student, obedient to their father, younger half-brother. They have the same father, but different mothers. They are not close to each other at all! Sem gets into all kinds of trouble. Nate is the perfect son in front of his parents especially his father, an A student, excels in horseback riding and competes in it, but hiding his cravings and desires away from his parents.
This kind of taboo trope is my first. There are a lot of firsts for me here. I never could understand how humiliation can be a turn on but some people do get off on it. Some people also get off on some form of physical pain akin to asphyxiation. Just a little bit of Dom/sub dynamic when in reality both characters are strong-willed. The dirty talk is also another turn on for our characters in this tale. What happens between them is like an attraction they know is not right but they couldn’t help themselves. They don’t really exert a lot of effort fighting it though.
Some tropes are taboo in the sense that it goes beyond what we normally expect or are used to. But as a reader, I am willing to read different tropes and see which ones I like. For those who are into this kind of dynamic, I think you are going to love this two-book series by Quin Perin.
