Book two in the Warlocks series
A warlock’s blood gives him life. It can also bring his death.
It’s no wonder Evrain Brookes, newly fledged warlock, is feeling the strain. A coven of power-hungry witches is after his blood. Literally. A psychotic warlock wants him dead. His godfather’s training regime is about as much fun as chewing on nettles and an overweight, scarily perceptive cat has moved into his house.
His boyfriend Dominic yearns for a normal life, or at least a safer one. He accepts his role both as Evrain’s submissive partner and as the conduit through which he channels his gift—but he’s afraid for his lover, and the lengths Evrain’s enemies might go to in order to fulfill their lust for power.
When Evrain falls victim to a plot between the Octis Coven and malevolent warlock Symeon Malus, it’s up to Dominic to rescue him. With the help of the two other North American warlocks, Shadow the cat and an old enemy, Dominic takes steps to get his lover back. There’s a high price to pay and no guarantee that the risks he must take will work out but Evrain is worth going through hell for, even if it costs Dominic his life.
Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of violence, kidnap, and torture.
Publisher’s Note: This book is best read in sequence, as part of a series
REVIEW:
I really am loving this series. I love that all the old characters are back and some new ones are introduced. There is a sleazeball still at work that needs to go, but you always have to have that one idiotic bad guy, ya know? But I love this one too, because not only do these guys go through a lot in this one, there is someone that gets a chance at redemption. A second chance so desperately needed. And someone who finally cares enough to give what is needed.
Dominic and Evrain thought they could rest for a bit after finally dealing with sleazeoid, Symeon. Little do they know, though, that that rest is going to be very short lived. When Dominic notices he’s being watched, he alerts Gregory and Gregory feels it’s time to bring someone else in. And that someone caught another someone on the premises looking for a way to make things right. Only this time, there’s a lot more at stake. Not only does Symeon want Evrain and Dominic for horrible things, including death, now a witch’s coven is after him for his blood. And with Symeon in the mix, it’s not going to be a pretty picture. Dominic has to risk his own life and sanity to do what must be done. Save his lover, his partner, his life. Even if it costs him his.
I had a feeling Symeon’s slimy ass was going to be back after the last book. After what they did to him, I knew he’d do anything now to get revenge. He was determined in anyway he could see possible. You’d think he’d learn a few things after that, but then again, greed and power make people stupid. But what I love, is even in the danger they were in, as scared as they were, Evrain and Dominic’s bond was constantly growing stronger. Their love was becoming a bond that was hard to break. No matter how hard Symeon was trying. But I love the new characters introduced as well. And because of it, someone gets a do over. That made it even more special for me. When I saw who was coming around, I had a feeling it wouldn’t be good. But it ended up bad and good. Symeon has done damage everywhere he turns and now everyone has to try to come back from that. It’s hard. PTSD has definitely set in a bit with everyone. Because that man is nothing but evil.
But it’s a fun story. Of love, of hope, of redemption, and sassy brats and their dommy men. It’s been a great series so far and I’m ready to see where the next book goes. Especially with how this one ended.
