“When you’re around, you’re all I can see.”
“Someday, my prince will come.”
Danny is an artist with the best job in the world, creating beautiful things at Delicious, the bakery his best friend owns. The only thing that would make life better is finding his own personal Prince Charming, but despite a life-long addiction to happily-ever-after, Danny doesn’t really hold out much hope for that. He’d rather stay alone than compromise who he is for men who are only interested if he tones down his flamboyant personality.
“Someday, I’ll find a better life.”
Mace first learned to protect himself while growing up in a harsh foster care system. Serving an unjust prison sentence taught him even more valuable life lessons. Don’t let your feelings show. Trusting people only gets you hurt. It’s okay to want things, just don’t expect to ever actually get them. Now that he’s a free man again, Mace lives by those life lessons, keeping to himself and saving for a better life… even if he has no idea what that better life might end up looking like.
“It’s you. My better life is you.”
When their paths unexpectedly cross, Mace finds himself questioning everything life has taught him, from his sexuality to the wisdom of trusting someone with his heart, and as the two men get to know each other, Danny’s dreams go to war with his doubts. Actually getting everything he wants sounds like the stuff of fairytales, but sometimes, even in real life, dreams really can come true…
REVIEW:
Danny is an out and proud beautiful young man who loves making beautiful things. He does this in his best friend’s bakery with the sweet concoctions that he decorates. He also has love for all things PRINCES. He hopes one day his Prince would come to sweep him off his feet! Maybe that is why he is holding out for that one person who would accept him as he is, for all that he is!
Mace has had a hard upbringing being in foster homes, imprisoned wrongly because he trusted his foster brother to clear his name. It was a wake-up call for him not to trust anyone, even those he thought he knew. Now, he just wants to make beautiful things in the form of keeping the gardens beautiful in a big park in the city. He keeps his head low and avoids trouble. But he gets lonely, too. Then he saw a beautiful man.
I am not well versed with the foster care system of other countries, but I know that most of the time children get overlooked because there are too many of them, and sometimes their foster parents just don’t care enough. Many of these children fall through the cracks and lose themselves. Others learn and work hard to make themselves better. Others get put onto a path not of their own choosing and never get out.
Ms. Stella Starling has woven a sweet (with a little angst) tale of two people looking for that special person meant for them. Both of them are not certain it’ll happen, but they still keep hoping. This is a slow-burn but I love how the story panned out. Danny and Mace are very sweet and so in love, you are going to love them, too!
