The heartrending conclusion to the On My Knees Duet, a forbidden MM romance by USA Today Bestseller Ella James…
You think you know me.
That’s the way I want it.
Making you feel like we know each other—like we could go grab a beer sometime—is part of my job. Maybe the most vital part.
It doesn’t hurt that I’m easy on the eyes, single at 35, and born richer than sin. My aesthetic matters much more than it should, but all the better for my worthy cause.
And it’s a worthy cause.
I’ve made an art out of making you feel good, and my influence makes you want to be good. Good like me.
You think you know me, but you don’t.
Everyone has secrets. Mine could cost me everything.
So I’m a fortress. No one’s ever even gotten close.
Until tonight.
See that man, the tall guy dripping on the bow of my yacht? The one I just pulled from the ocean?
He’s the one who’s going to cost me everything.
REVIEW: You will most certainly want to read the previous book in this crazy little story, as that really explains what is going on and what our guys are dealing with. And you most certainly will want to have this one lined up and ready to go to read the stunning conclusion. This book picks up right where the previous one left off. Vance and Luke are trying to co-exist in Luke’s world with Luke still needing to keep things under wraps while Vance works on the Church mural he was hired for. As was the case from the get go here, these two just can’t help but gravitate toward one another in a major way. You can just about feel the pull yourself, the chemistry is that strong.
However, despite Luke’s earlier experience with anyone thinking he could be gay and his participation in conversion therapy when he was a child, Luke chose to stay on the path of the Church rising up quickly to be the popular leader of the current day with millions of followers. He never really preached about the issue in his sermons specifically, he always tried to encourage inclusiveness. With the issue becoming more and more visible, the Church decides they must vote to take a stand. Believing they will chose the right path, Luke holds out that it might make it a possibility for him to actually be with Vance. Things don’t go as he had hoped, some other things happen, and the story takes a bit of a darker turn.
However, even though Vance has made his choice to return to New York, unable to deal with things as they have been despite being totally in love, or maybe because of it, he is there when Luke needs him. Things become clearer as events unfold, and our guys’ love shines through. Rest assured, there is a happy ending for these guys.
This story grabbed me from the get go. It went in a totally different direction than I had expected, and even then, it played out a bit differently and had a different feel than what I thought would be the same old, same old. Needless to say, I was riveted, fell in love with both men, loved seeing them together and loved watching their struggles. I was not a fan of the tense used, but that’s my personal issue. The story itself was well written and read smoothly. I do wish the ending would have been a little more drawn out after all the struggle leading to it and more time with the guys happily together would have been a plus as well. Needless to say, I will definitely be looking for more from this author!
