Magical species must never mix.
According to the rules, Simon Osborne should ignore the children’s cries for help. After all, they’re werewolf cubs, and he’s an apprentice mage. But for once in his life, Simon breaks the rules and rescues the cubs, saving them from a demon intent on draining them of their magic.
Of course, all actions have consequences, and Simon’s bold move earns him the displeasure of his peers and the attention of the cubs’ alpha, a man named Gray Townsend.
The last thing Gray needs is a mage in his life, but Simon did save his son. Since Simon is now a friend of the pack, Gray doesn’t have much choice about it—or the forbidden attraction that goes along with it. Unfortunately for the alpha, he needs Simon’s help to track down the demon behind the kidnappings—before it strikes again. Simon and Gray must join forces to protect the pack, even as they struggle to resist the temptation that threatens to destroy them both.
2nd Edition. Originally published in 2012 as Poppy Dennison.
REVIEW:
I’ve been meaning to read this series for quite some time and never got the chance to. Now Ms. Blake has re-released the series with updates and revisions and I’m not sure how it compares to the original, which she states somewhere is her first book ever. All I can do is review the book I read. Let’s start by saying it was right up there as probably my favorite book/series by her that I’ve read so far. And that is saying a lot. I really like her Hellhounds series, so I’m kind of tossing back and forth which is my favorite.
In Mind Magic, Ms. Blake introduces us to a world of magic, mages, shifters, vampires and demons. We meet Simon Osborne when he feels compelled to rescue some shifter children from a demon. Now you would think that would be a good thing, correct? Well it isn’t. For some odd reason, which I still haven’t figured out and I’m at the end of book two, the races are strictly segregationist. They don’t mix, and not only do they not mix, they are forbidden to. What Simon does with the rescue raises the ire of not only the mages but also the wolf shifters. Who is this man Simon and why does he want to break all the rules?
I really liked Simon, and the other characters that Ms. Blake created for this story. I liked where the story is going, and as I said above, I’m already finished with book two, which I’ll be reviewing separately and now I’m anxiously awaiting the re-release of books three and four.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who is a Macy Blake fan, or anyone who enjoys a good shifter story.
