REVIEW:
So, this is book 20 in this long running series. Now, this series absolutely must be read in sequential order, not only in terms of this series, but the series this spin off from. I say this because I missed the previous two books in this series and ended up a bit confused to who/what and whys of this story as a result. I ended up having to go back and read the blurbs of the stories I missed just to get a feel for what was going on in this one. Once I gained a feel for what happened in the previous stories leading up to this one, the story flowed along quite nicely for me.
I liked Wilson and Jayden. Especially Wilson. In his early 40s, he’s gained an element of freedom with his divorce from his gold digging wife, the death of his father and the distance he deliberately places between him and his socialite, status climbing cold mother. Free from those entanglements, he’s finding his son and plans to get to know him and love his best life. He wasn’t looking to fall in love but a series of events allowed him to find love. Wil and Jay are on opposite sides and by all accounts-incompatible, of the professional coin (politician/reporter) but in this instance, it worked out in their favor. The insta-love was a bit quick but I understand this is a novella in a series so it’s necessary. In this case, it was a complete whirlwind. It wasn’t bad at all, just…fast.
As always, the author did a lovely job of maintaining the older characters while introducing new ones. The story flowed nicely despite the fast paced love story. There was a touch of violence but it was mild.
All in all, I’d say it turned out rather nicely. These are really nice little novellas that fit together perfectly to form this series. The books are 100 pages or just a little under but they’re nice little reads. I’m looking forward to what happens in the next installment.
