Luck has never been on Lamark’s side.
After his father’s untimely death, the new captain casts Lamark off the ship, leaving him in a dinghy in the middle of the ocean. Lamark is sure his life is over.
In a stroke of luck, Lamark encounters a merman, who saves him from drowning and brings him to a deserted island. Lamark quickly learns that on this mysterious island, not everything is as it seems, and danger lurks in every nook. This island may very well be the death of him.
Adventure, romance, and maybe some swashbuckling await Lamark, so long as he’s not too lily-livered to venture into the deep…
REVIEW:
Lamark wasn’t ready to having his father, pirate captain Karlus Phalen, unexpectedly die in his arms. Or to being thrown overboard by the mutinous crew, abandoned in a dinghy in the middle of the ocean. He certainly can’t believe it when he sees a creature very much resembling a merman trapped in a net. Because mermen aren’t real, right? Nevertheless,he tries to help. At this point,it shouldn’t come as a surprise that while helping, the poor guy falls into the ocean, sinking into its depths.
Oh,don’t fret,Lamark doesn’t drown. He wakes up on a beach with the most beautiful of all creatures looking down on him. A merman,Yuvie, because apparently, yes, mermen real. And while gazing adoringly into each other’s eyes might be a wonderful experience, soon Lamark’s stomach protests and he’s forced to go looking for food.
And that’s when the real fun begins…for me,not for Lamark. For him, every time he ventures into the island’s forest,it’s one pain after another. Yes,I know it’s not nice to laugh at at someone else’s misfortunes, but believe me,it was hard not to. Because he’s the clumsiest, accident prone man possible, with a shadow of bad luck following him around. If one thing can go wrong for him,it does. He stumbles and trips, he falls down hills and he’s chased by terrifying animals. Hilarious and so adorable in his reactions to his incidents, already resigned to a destiny of mischances.
The only reprieve for Lamark is when he’s with Yuvie. He can’t get enough of the mesmerizing merman. They find ways to talk, stumbling with words and gestures…until they begin to communicate with kisses and touches.
I know I gave a lot away, although I hadn’t planned to. Because you absolutely need to savor for yourselves. Amara Lynn’s storytelling is so vivid, colorful and light. You’ll live through an engaging adventure on a magical, mysterious island, where the strangest things seem to happen. You’ll fall in love with Lamark and Yuvie, and you’ll laugh, fear, rejoice and awe.
I loved it and I can’t recommend it enough.
