BLURB:
Stephen hates Christmas with a passion. It’s one of those holidays he just wishes could be erased from the calendar, forever.
Especially after last year when he was looking forward to spending Christmas with the man he loved enjoying the festivities and exchanging gifts. Only Stephen was given a gift he wished he could return, but there was no receipt.
Fast forward a year, and so much has changed. Stephen is single and moving on with his life. One night while working at a Christmas Party in a swanky hotel, he gets a little more than he bargained for after an encounter with one of the guests, except he’s left with nothing other than the memory of the feeling of lips on his body and a man he desperately wants to know better.
Will their paths cross again? Maybe this year Santa Claus might just give him something he actually wants to open on Christmas morning.
REVIEW:
Stephen hates Christmas. After a bad breakup the previous year, Stephan has little desire to celebrate and he has plans to just work over the holiday time to save money. He’s on his own in his student accommodation as his housemates have gone home to their families. That’s not an option for Stephen, so he’s not that unhappy to have the place to himself. He’s busy working a couple of jobs – his usual bar tending and also his catering gigs.
One night at a particularly busy party venue, he ends up with a close encounter of the VERY personal kind with a guest at one of the parties. The guy gives him the best blowjob of his life and then disappears. No name, no number, nothing is left behind. Stephen tries to find him – checking all the parties, but alas, he’s nowhere to be found. Stephen carries on with his holiday work plans and has the house to himself. He just really would like to ignore Christmas – but as luck would have it, he’s been given extra shifts on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day – along with a special Christmas dinner invite with this boss and the staff at his bars and other clubs. At least it’ll keep him occupied and hopefully keep his mind off of his singledom and missing out on connecting with his party hookup, aw well as stash away some additional fund .
On Christmas Eve, there is a special show at the club and one of the dancers looks familiar – very familiar. Turns out to be Stephens mystery man. Just when they are about to connect, a blast from Stephen’s past shows up at the absolute most inopportune moment. Luckily Stephen’s boss and his coworkers have his back. Maybe this Christmas will turn out Ok after all.
This story started off with a bang – a quickie hot blowjob in a coatroom. And no idea who the mystery guy is. *sigh* I really wanted to like this story more and I really struggled with how to rate this. I just found it quite hard to connect with Stephen. There were a few niggles that put me off a bit as they are personal pet peeves. Stephen’s response to women expressing interest in him is just too much. I mean, I’m pretty much straight, but if someone – anyone – flirted with me without stepping over the line – I don’t think I would react with nausea. I mean a polite “no thank you” was fine, but stomach turning?? There aren’t many female characters in this story, but those that were there were more like caricatures – and not flattering ones. Beyond that, I did like Stephen’s boss Joe and his boyfriend quite a lot. I also liked the mystery man as it turned out. The villain of the piece definitely his just desserts, so that was good 😉 This is the first story I’ve read by this author. I have a feeling I would maybe like her series books better than this one. As usual, your mileage may vary 🙂
