The moment Ashley gave up looking for the right man, he showed up in the form of restaurateur Colt Harrison. Sexy has never looked this good.
Ashley Willis didn’t think he was interested in joining the dating pool…that is, until he catches a glimpse of Colt. The sexy diner owner makes him hot all over and has him thinking all sorts of dirty thoughts. But Ashley has to worry about more than his sex drive—he’s a single dad. What goes on in his life affects his son. Will Ashley play it safe or find the love he deserves with Colt?
Colt’s been happily single for the last few years. He likes his complications to stay at the diner. Then he meets Ashley. The geeky art teacher is everything Colt’s dreamed of having in his bed. Will the fact that Ashley’s a single father be the deal-breaker or will the naysayers in Cedarwood break up this couple before they get a chance to find love?
REVIEW:
Warning: This story deals with a hate crime and severe homophobia. If it is a problem, be aware.
When people have been burnt in the past by exes, it’s hard to open up and trust again. It’s hard to even think about trying to date again, no matter how lonely you may get. But if you meet the right one, sometimes it’s good to take the plunge. But when there’s children involved, it’s even harder. Because the child comes first. So taking the plunge isn’t quite so easy. Even if it is the right person. This is one of those stories. It’s sweet, but hard. It’s real life. It’s not easy. It takes work. And although there’s an HEA, it’s a good reminder, that anything worth having in life, takes hard work, patience and love.
Ashley was nervous being a part of the single dad’s group. But it helped knowing he had others to support him. Even if he was a bit shy. But getting to know Steve, Colin, and the partners have made things a little easier. Until he met Colt. It was like a lightning bolt had struck him. But he was too leery to try to do anything. But the others wanted a festival to show support to other gays in the community and Ashley and Colt got shoved together. It started a good friendship and ended up leading to more. But it was hard. Nerves, pasts and doubts caused things to be up and down. And even worse, when the coalition started in and then ended up hurting Colt. With Ashley having Wyatt, his son, will the relationship be enough or maybe it will be time to move on where Wyatt could be possibly safer.
I hate bullying and homophobia. Why can’t people just realize we’re all human and all deserve love. But it’s not often the case. So I feel for Ashley. Having a child in that kind of environment makes things harder. You don’t want you’re kid mixed up with that mess. I get it because I feel the same for my child. You worry and fret and wish to high heaven you could do everything you could to make the world a better place. But all we can do is try to make it better where we are a little at a time. And that’s what they all had to realize and eventually did. They had to keep going, keep fighting to make the world a better place for where they were, one step at a time. You can’t change the world in a day, but little by little you can make a difference. And it also helped when they both finally learned to let go and trust in each other and learn that not all love is bad.
It’s a good story. It’s everyday life and a reminder to take each day a step at a time and make a difference where we can. And maybe all of us can change the world were we are.
