Christmas. A Wedding. Family. It’s the Perfect Storm…
For Rory Kincaid marrying Jack, the youngest son of the aristocratic De Lacy family, on Christmas Eve, is a dream come true. Handing over the wedding planning to Jack’s mother, the strong-willed Lady Diana, is turning out to be more of a nightmare.
As their big day approaches, the pressure’s on and the strain is beginning to show. Announcements in society magazines, a guest list that’s growing and growing, and fittings for the best bespoke tailoring in London, it’s all a far cry from Rory’s humble upbringing. Piece by piece, Rory and Jack’s dream of a simple winter wedding is fading fast.
Rory is Jack’s everything. Sweet, kind, and totally adorable, Rory is all Jack has ever wanted. And what Jack wants most of all is to give the man he loves the wedding day of his dreams — which means taking a stand against the indomitable Diana.
***Warning: this story contains two gorgeous men, a mountain of festive food, a punk rocker Christmas fairy called Bunty, and a snowy Christmas Wedding. No cliff hangers, and one hundred percent Happy Ever After guaranteed.***
REVIEW:
Note: This is the third book in this series, and as such has spoilers for Books 1 and 2, but it can be read as a standalone.
It’s December and Rory and Jack’s Christmas Eve wedding is approaching. They have been together almost two years. Their bakery business is going well – better than either of them could have imagined. As such, though, they are extremely busy – especially Rory with all the baking. What they want is a small, simple, intimate wedding. Just family and a few close friends. But with all the work, Rory has acquiesced to Jack’s mother who is a party planner extraordinaire. Unfortunately that means that what was once so simple now involves a fancy hotel venue, fancy food and drink, bespoke suits and a much larger guest list than originally planned.
Rory is feeling stressed not only by the business of the holiday season at The Bakehouse, but also by the decisions that he is and is not making about the wedding. While he’s grateful for the help, but he’s also a little resentful. And then he feels guilty, because really Jack’s family has been so wonderful and welcoming to him. He also struggles with feeling like maybe he’s not good enough for Jack and the De Lacy name. Diana, Jack’s mom, comes to visit and has more news of additional changes to the guest list. This has both Jack and Rory a bit dismayed. But they really can’t say no to the new additions either. Also, the story of Desmond the donkey is so hilarious that I found myself laughing out loud.
As the wedding day approaches and they get fitted for their suits, it seems Diana has more plans for them as well – that they weren’t aware of. Thankfully the rest of Jack’s family comes to their rescue and helps them untangle themselves from the full Diana press. Jack is also thinking about the future – of their business and their lives, but he doesn’t want to put any more pressure on Rory who is already feeling it.
I read the first book, A Kiss Before Christmas, after reading this one, so really while there are spoilers, it’s absolutely fine if you haven’t read the first one. Jack and Rory are so great together. They work as a team in business and in life. They truly love and respect each other and leave each to their strengths. Jack is very protective of Rory after what he’s been through, but it’s great to see Rory standing up for himself as well. Jack’s family continues to delight – including his sister Caroline and his parents. Even the family dog gets into the act! They do really care for Rory and only want Jack’s happiness. There were some definite laugh out loud moments as well as tender moments as when Jack makes Rory truly feel like he’s one of the family already. Jack and Rory’s Christmas traditions are a little unusual, but they are theirs and theirs alone. The past is the past and they are moving toward a wonderful Christmas and a new stage of life together. Recommended for those who love Christmas stories and happy endings
