Cameron has built a good life for himself despite his rough start. He can’t trust enough for romance, but he’s okay with that. He’s got good money coming in as a graphic designer and just inherited a duplex in Plymouth from his estranged grandfather, so he doesn’t have to worry about keeping a roof over his head. He likes his tenants, he has friends, and he’s content with that.
When two guys claiming to be paranormal investigators show up on his doorstep tell him the tenants contacted them about “phenomena” in the house, he knows they’re con men right away. For one thing, they claim he was the tenant. He sends them packing. It doesn’t matter that one of the con artists is the hottest guy Cameron has seen in years — if anything, that just makes Cameron more suspicious.
Then things go wrong in the house, things he can’t shrug off or ignore. The past Cameron has worked so hard to leave behind is coming for him, and it’s angry.
REVIEW:
Possible Triggers: child abuse, murdered sister by mother, tried to kill them all, beatings from boyfriends, etc. Please be careful.
This was a hard one, just because what Cameron and his siblings had to go through from their mother and her ‘boyfriends’. The sad part is, now she’s dead and determined to haunt him and his tenants in ways that are unbelievable. So, when paranormal investigators show up, he thinks it’s all a hoax. Needless to say, the police were called twice. But somehow, Cameron let his walls down long enough to listen and what they are fighting is beyond his ghost of his mother and her minions. It’s much worse. And now, he and this investigative team have to figure out how to get rid of the evil, before someone dies. And it’s been too close of a call already.
You know, I’m a very skeptical person. I don’t personally believe in ghosts, although I love reading about them and other paranormal stuff. I also don’t trust very easy, so I would be exactly like Cameron in this book. If someone came to my door, uninvited, claiming they were paranormal investigators, I would have laughed in their faces first, then kicked them off my property. And knowing the background Cam has, I really wouldn’t trust anyone I didn’t know, especially when they’re claiming he’s the one that called them, when the opposite is true. And he automatically clashed with one of the guys, because they both have hot tempers and snotty attitudes. It’s almost comical if it wasn’t so harsh they way they talk to each other. But, like I said, I get it. But when more and more starts happening, Cam can’t deny it anymore. I think at that point, my brain would have switched off. I’d be like whaaaa???? Yeah, not happening.
But I have to say, even with Cam and Jason at each other throats every time they turn around, when push came to shove, they protected each other and backed each other up. They may argue about it during and after, but they still protect each other the best they can.
This book has some good characters and some you wish could permanently stay in the seven circles of Hell. Evil is a nice way of putting how some of them are. But, it makes for one hell of a story. Good vs. evil. The inevitable bad and good. Push and pull and everything in between. It’s a rough journey with some freaky shit. But through it all, Cam holds his ground and refuses to give in. Refuses to let the bad guys win. And that takes strength and courage, even when he feels like he has none. Damn good story.
