After growing up in care, all Sam wants is to make a home for him and Tommy, his kid brother by choice. But it’s not as easy as he thought, especially when his social worker finds him a job miles away. And falling for the surprising boy at work only makes things harder.
Evra is different, his past a mystery. Being truly himself is not something he’s ever felt safe enough to be with anyone, not until Sam, the shyest boy ever, saves his life at work and Evra finds himself inexplicably trusting him. Wanting him.
Problem is, Sam is leaving, unable to stand being so far away from Tommy. And Evra can’t leave, not when he has consequences to face.
Making things work might seem complicated, but sometimes falling in love has its own consequences.
REVIEW:
Man, this was SUCH a good book and I cried like a baby through the whole thing. Wow. I can’t give stuff away, but the pain these young men have been through. Holy hell. But, the thing about this story, is it is a story of hope, friendship, love and survival. And honestly so much more.
Sam is heartbroken having to be away from Tommy. But his social worker pretty much made him feel like he had to move farther away to take this job and be on his own, when all he wanted was to find something close to Tommy, until he could take care of Tommy himself. Being painfully shy, he doesn’t have friends, but he’s gaining one. In the sweet man named Evra. Evra sees things in Sam that makes Sam feel things he’s never felt before. And Sam makes Evra feel the same way. But the hard part is, there is trouble brewing at work and at the home Evra lives in and it only seems to be getting worse. What’s even worse for Evra, is Sam may be moving away from him, and after as close as they’ve gotten, it would break his heart into a million pieces. But Evra’s friend, Mav, is also seeing and watching things. And sometimes things catch up to the bad people at the right time. And the consequences are damning.
This story broke me like you wouldn’t believe. It is such an amazing story, with an amazing and complex set of characters that leave you wanting more. Even the assholes. To read the backstories of these boys, to see what they have been through, but how far they have come, is beyond words. Even in their darkest hours, they kept getting up and trying. Sam, Mav and Evra, all intertwined in ways that end up in a remarkable way. There’s more that end up being added to this small group, and what amazes me, is it took these young men to make changes they didn’t even know they were making. It took watching and being careful and sometimes careless, to see what was really important in their lives. And what it would take to change it all. It’s been a hard as hell journey, but in the end, it’s been worth it, when the result of what they have, comes to pass.
It’s an incredible story. But I will warn you, bring lots of tissues. These young men will imprint on your heart and stay there.
