BLURB:
You think you know me.
That’s the way I want it.
Making you feel like we know each other—like we could go grab a beer sometime—is part of my job. Maybe the most vital part.
It doesn’t hurt that I’m easy on the eyes, single at 35, and born richer than sin. My aesthetic matters much more than it should, but all the better for my worthy cause.
And it’s a worthy cause.
I’ve made an art out of making you feel good, and my influence makes you want to be good. Good like me.
You think you know me, but you don’t.
Everyone has secrets. Mine could cost me everything.
So I’m a fortress. No one’s ever even gotten close.
Until tonight.
See that man, the tall guy dripping on the bow of my yacht? The one I just pulled from the ocean?
He’s the one who’s going to cost me everything.
REVIEW:
I will admit, I didn’t quite know what to expect with this one, but the blurb lured me in. And, as this story began, I wondered what I was thinking. Not only is it in first person (which I really dislike), but, right out of the gate it had an over-the-top, somewhat hokey feel to it. But I pressed on, and thank goodness I did, because once things are set in motion, there is a big twist, and it only gets better from there.
I really don’t want to give too much away here. Two guys meet, have off the charts hot sex and amazing chemistry, and are seemingly an exact fit for one another. But throw in some secrets (albeit a pretty freaking big one) and basically no chance of them ever being together due to said secret.
Luke is the closeted one with the big secret – the reason for being closeted and understandably why he believes and has mostly come to terms with the inability to emerge from said closet. However, he never expected to have the kind of reaction he did to Vance. Luckily, once Vance knows about Luke, he understands his situation and offers him the safety he requires which allows him to give in and stay in contact. A lot of time passes as we learn the extent of what is going on with each of these guys and their lives, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
Beware that this hot little number ends rather abruptly and will no doubt leave you drooling for the next installment. I know it did for me, and I can’t wait to see how this all plays out in the follow up book.
