Reindeer Games Definition: activities to exclude outsiders
Industrial-art student Leif Caldwell and his best friend win tickets to the hottest party in town, the annual masquerade Christmas gala at the upmarket nightclub, Evoque. Not a gig they could ever afford to attend or buy costumes for, so Leif makes their masks. Given the holiday theme and the play on words, he makes a set of striking reindeer antlers and intends to have the night of his life.
Vintage Ridge’s resident millionaire and owner of Evoque, Russ Quarrington, hates the holiday season because it reminds him of everything he’s lost. All the money and success in the world can’t fill the void in his heart, and this year he’s particularly bereft. With the gala looming, his personal assistant insists Russ attends and that he wear a mask that offers anonymity, and hopefully find some festive cheer. Bored with the guys in town and tired of men only wanting him for his money, he reluctantly agrees.
But when Russ sees a mysterious man with a magnificent reindeer antlers and mask, he’s instantly intrigued. Even when their masks are removed, Leif has no idea who Russ really is, and what Russ discovers is a man who understands him. And for the first time ever, a man who doesn’t want what Russ has. This time, it’s Russ who wants what Leif has, what money can’t buy.
Russ and Leif are about to learn that sometimes Reindeer Games are the only games worth playing
REVIEW:
Russ has everything any man could ask for, money, cars, a really thriving business and he is out and proud but he’s still a lonely rich man. There are just some things that money cannot truly buy, like happiness or peace. The loneliness that envelopes him, especially during winter and Christmas is just overwhelming this year. He can feel the loneliness through his bones.
Leif loves to create things, from wood, twigs, glass and any material he can find that will not cost money. Money is not abundant (or even enough) in his family, but they always have food on their table and for him and his foster brothers and sisters, that is all they need plus the love of their mother! After all he has what is important in his life, pride and integrity!
Russ’ family didn’t want anything to do with him and that he’ll not amount to anything, so he worked hard to prove them wrong. But now he has everything yet somehow that void inside him won’t be filled. He feels an overwhelming sadness and hopelessness in the very center of his being. He does not think he’ll ever find the thing that will fill that void.
Leif never had anything in abundance, his foster family never had anything much but he is happy, he works and studies hard. He works on his art with passion. And his best friend winning tickets for the biggest Masquerade Ball in their city has inspired him to come up with an amazing work of art.
I love how these two characters were written, how attracted they are to each other and how they are always craving for each other’s company. The honesty and instant attraction factors are so refreshing. The research into modern-brutal art is amazing and informative. I love how the art pieces are described and I can actually see the art in my mind. I love this amazing tale! It is not an instant love story, but I think the friendship that developed alongside the attraction helped the relationship move it a little faster, but that works for me.
