Bitter and angry at the prejudice he faces, Kaidyn meets Sorin, a healer from one of Sareen’s most prominent noble families. As their relationship deepens, the war between Sareen and Iskandir grows worse. Not only will the pair inevitably become involved with the conflict one way or another, but Sorin is also hiding a secret, and time is running out for them both.
REVIEW:
I stumbled across this book on our author request sheet at Love Bytes and thought it sounded like something I’d enjoy. I’m glad I found it. I enjoyed meeting Kaidyn and Sorin. I’m hoping we will get more of them in the future, but for now I was happy with the fairly fast read. I finished it in a couple of hours, but it definitely left me wanting more.
Let’s talk about the story. Kaidyn is the son of the queen. His mother married a man from a neighboring kingdom, one where another race rules. Because of his half-blood appearance, Kaidyn has been shunned his entire life and is not in line to rule the kingdom of Sareen, even if something were to happen to both his mother and his older sister. He instead has entered a military academy where he is still treated as an outcast. There are hints that others might look past his half-blood status, but he resists all contact with his academy mates. Then he is in a street fight and beaten quite badly. He wakes up being treated by a strange man named Sorin. Someone he has never met. When it turns out that Sorin is the new healer at the academy, the two are thrown together more often. But Sorin is the child of one of the oldest and most prestigious aristocratic families in the country. How can the two of them work?
I liked the author’s world building on this one. I’ve already requested book one as well. I’m really hoping there will be a book three…
I recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy/alternate world story. I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
