To Nathan Hunt, honesty is anything but the best policy. Telling the truth has earned him nothing but heartache and pain, so lying about who he is and what he wants seems to be the only path to job security and friends. Hell, it even brings him a hollow kind of happiness.
Except that’s not much of a life for anyone. Desperate to cure his self-made misery, Nathan agrees to go along with a con that will score enough cash for Nathan to start over. There’s just one problem: lying is getting harder by the day. And a con who can’t lie, is a con who gets caught.
Nathan’s attempts to distract himself from his moral quandary lead him to a mysterious, intoxicating man named Fury, a mixed martial arts fighter who knows a thing or two about lies and pasts better left dead and buried. Together, they undertake a journey that proves honesty is more dangerous and more difficult than either of them could have imagined. And as they combat addiction, thugs, guns, and inner demons, Nathan and Fury can only hope that their battle to be together is worth the bitter fight.
REVIEW:
I have to tell you before anyone gets to far into this book, it deals with some very bad things and bad pasts. Beatings, rape, pedophilia, drugs, dealers and more. So if any of this bothers you, please have a care. This book is a harsh reality that a lot of people in life have to face, but I have to hand it to the author, it’s damn well written. You go through so many emotions in this book. The characters are so real to life. You can see other people in them and what they are going through. It’s hard.
Nathan basically has a beard. The job he’s at is a wholesome Christian place to work at that condones basically male/female marriages and such. And Nathan is as gay as they come. When the boss’s daughter and he get together for a date, the truth comes out on both sides and they agree to get married. With some stipulations. But all the lying is getting to Nathan. He finds himself missing blocks of time and it’s because he’s been doing drugs and going out of town to find a boy toy for the night and find release to be himself for a few. But it’s getting worse every day. Until he meets the gorgeous man, Fury, at the gym. Turns out Fury is interested in him. But both of them have pasts and things they are dealing with now that are causing some major problems. And until both of them deal with what they need to, they are never going to be able to be free together. But it’s going to come at a price. And hopefully that price isn’t their lives.
I feel for both of these men. Their paths have unfortunately, shaped their futures. They haven’t made the best of decisions, and it’s set them spiraling. Fortunately, Fury is dealing with some of his issues, but some of his past is coming back to haunt him with more added to it. And Nathan is still hiding. But Nathan has to do things that he feels is right on his own terms. And he will, when faced with something that changes his life forever. I cried and raged for these guys. Through everything they were having to deal with, they kept coming back up fighting. It wasn’t always the right way in things they did, but they kept trying. And I had to admire them for it. Because I’ve seen most men crumble at what these guys have went through. But they always say, the best things in life are worth fighting for.
