Sawyer Smith’s life is a hot mess.
Hot, because he’s found six of his eight mates. To say things are heating up between them is putting it mildly.
A mess, because he’s the Chosen One, the son of a goddess with no powers of his own, tasked with fixing the broken magic in his world… and he has no clue how to do it.
With every new layer of mystery that’s revealed, Sawyer’s doubts about his abilities get stronger. To complicate matters, Sawyer is growing weaker by the day. Meanwhile, his newest guardian, the one he’s calling Yellow Eyes, refuses to reveal himself.
With time running out, Sawyer’s desperate enough to make a daring move — one that’s potentially deadly for him and his mates. Because at the end of the day, if there’s nothing ventured… there’s Nothing Gained.
REVIEW:
I’ve been following this series since book one and I have thoroughly enjoyed each installment. This isn’t a standalone book, instead being part of a series, and dependent on your having read the previous installments. I’m going to review it with the premise that you’ve read the previous books as I have.
Things are speeding up and Sawyer and and his growing crowd of mates are all moving towards a big show down with Sawyer’s evil brother, another child of the goddess. There are also three sisters, and a couple of them visit him in this installment.
Yellow eyes, Sawyer’s 7th mate is still hiding in the forest as we begin this story, but he is being gradually coaxed out. There is also talk of the 8th mate, and the best part of this installment in my mind was the introduction of Draco’s mother… a quite formidable dragon. Seeing Draco reduced to almost a panic about her arrival was comical.
I also loved that Sawyer’s adopted brothers were included in the continuing story. One has taken over foster care for a large group of shifter children who adore him, and the other is still in a coma, but I’m hoping in the next book he comes out of it.
If you haven’t been reading this series, and you enjoy a polyamorous story, with lots of men in the same bed, all of them either shifters or the son of a goddess, then you’ll enjoy the series. I look forward to the next book and I’m hoping the evil brother gets his in that next book.
