He was the Beast without the escape clause.
Francis “Liv” Livingston was a beast. No matter if he wore a perfectly tailored suit or if he was in his tactical gear, people avoided looking at him. He was always first to volunteer for the jobs only a person with a death wish wanted. Tomorrows weren’t guaranteed. His boss had come to him and told him he needed him for a job. Linus knew the jobs he liked, but when he opened the file, it all went to hell.
Beauty was only skin deep.
Fielding Haskell made his way in the world on his looks. He’d earned his first film role before he could read a script. He didn’t want the fame. He wanted to go to college. He wanted a man who didn’t look at him and see how pretty he was. Unfortunately, a so-called fan only cared how attractive he was, and it earned him a personal bodyguard and a vacation. He looked forward to the break until he met the man in charge of his safety and wondered if the danger he left was worth dealing with a sudden attraction to a man who was colder than ice.
REVIEW:
TRIGGERS, TRIGGERS, TRIGGERS!! As you know, if you’ve read this series, that all the boys for the most part have been through some kind of trauma or something. But the only one I can think of that comes close to what Liv has been through is Joker and even Joker can’t tough Liv. This is a very triggering book. It deals with mental, emotional, and physical abuse. And it’s bad. It also deals with attempted murder by fire by Liv’s own mother. So it has psychological issues as well as physical scars. It’s really bad. So if you guys can’t deal with any of it, please do not trigger yourself.
Livingston has had one hell of a rough life, thanks to his mother and her damn cult. He’s tried to get himself fixed from the physical scars, but there’s nothing more the drs can do. So not only does he have mental and emotional scars, he has to see the physical every time he looks in a mirror. He would never admit it aloud, but he is envious of the relationships that have grown around him. And everyone pretty much knows he has a death wish. That’s why he takes the missions he does for them. But now he’s got a babysitting job and he’s not a happy camper. Four months with a spoiled rich boy. Or so he thinks. What he doesn’t plan on is lusting after this boy immediately and wishing Fielding was his. But all he sees is his scars and all he feels is rage. What man in his right mind would love a man so broken? But he doesn’t see what Fielding does. The beauty under the scars or how the scars make the man. Even if he’s a tad grumpy lol. And all Fielding wants it to stay with Liv where he finally feels home. But a stalker has upped the game. First, trying to get rid of Liv and then taking Fielding. Will they be able to take this guy out so Liv can finally get the man of his dreams or will it all blow up in their faces?
I’m telling you, I’m picking all the books where I want to throat punch the hell out of some people for real. My word. Poor Liv. You couldn’t ask for a better punishment for his bitch ass mother. Psycho nut job. And if I never loved Peaches before this book, which I totally do, I really love her after this one. I know it’s hard for Liv to accept family and parental units after what he’s been through, but not a damn one gave up on him. Especially Peaches. And thank goodness. I wish I could be her in this book just to hug that man and show him what love is. But he’s learning. Little by little. It’s not easy. He’s stubborn as hell. But Fielding is perfect for him. Fielding sees Liv. Not the scars. Well, he sees the scars, obviously, but he sees the man under them. He sees the heart of Liv. Although, Liv would tell you he doesn’t have one. But Fielding shows Liv that he can be loved. Scars and all. Nightmares and all. Kinks and all. Fielding loves him for the way he is period. And Liv gives Fielding what he’s dreamed of for so long. Freedom and a chance to be himself and in love.
It’s bad enough when mental and emotional scars affect us, but when they’re physical, there’s no way to get away from that physical reminder. Ever. And unfortunately, some people are assholes about it. But someone real and true sees past what we see. Some sees for what that person truly is. And when it blossoms, it’s beautiful.
