Book blurb:
Movie star 101: A smile hides all pain.
Quellcrist King has been playing a part his entire life. The more famous he becomes, the more he hides. The only person he ever let see the real him rose with him from nothing to the very top.
They were the king and queen of Hollywood— and then she wanted a divorce. The only way to survive his depression is to bury himself in work. If he can be a character, maybe he won’t have to remember himself. A gay role can’t be any different than playing a straight one, can it?
But instead of finding solace in the character, he finds it in his costar. Hale becomes his best friend, his lifeline, the light in his darkness. Quell is forced to examine everything he thought he knew about himself while filming intimate scenes with Hale that feel more real than anything ever has before.
He’s lived his entire life following the script. What would life be like unscripted?
I opened the door to the hotel room and stopped dead in my tracks.
There was only one bed.
One bed for the two of us.
“I’ll go get a room. They have to have one some place. Probably even one here,” he said hesitantly.
“No, don’t go. We’ll call the concierge and see what can be done—” Mother fucking shit. “Worst case there is the love seat. They have to have a room. Really don’t worry.” I couldn’t stop myself and kept talking. I was sure I sounded like a mumbling idiot. “She doesn’t sleep well before events and doesn’t like to keep me up. Let me call and see if they have another room.” All this lying was going to kill me.
He nodded but gave me a strange look. He could probably tell. I prayed he wouldn’t ask me.
“A room with two beds. Shouldn’t be an issue.” And one that looked less like a honeymoon suite. I was getting half hard being in here despite the stress. We couldn’t both sleep in here.
“Can I have a room with two beds? I have a friend who’s going to use this room and stage with us.” I pinched the bridge of my nose as I tried to think of all the ways this was going to piss Rachael off.
“Mister King, we have no other adjoining suits.” Over my dead body would I be in a suite with Rachael and Hale. She’d be able to smell my attraction to Hale. She knew me too well.
“My—wife and I need our staff close to us to help us prepare for the premiere.” I ground my teeth as I said the words. “Can you get me another room even if it’s a downgrade?
“The hotel is fully booked for the premiere, sir, we have no other rooms.”
“Thank you.” I glanced over at Hale as I hung up the phone. “They have nothing.”
“I can sleep on the chair or something.”
“No, don’t do that. Like I said, I will talk to Rachael.” I put my head in my hands before pushing them into my hair. I didn’t want him to see more of this than he already had. I had to contain it.
He stroked a hand down my back, and I picked up my head to look over at him. He searched my eyes and I wanted so badly to spill all the secrets I’d been keeping.
“Don’t stress,” he said. “You don’t want to piss her off. You can spend your alone time with her then I’ll sleep on the chair.” He dropped his hand. I wished he’d return it. His lips broke into a half smile.
“It’s a king-sized bed. We’ve been pretty naked together. I think we can sleep in a bed.”
He laughed. “So true. This is more space and privacy than we usually get.”
“We’ll have a whole bed and not twenty people watching.”
“If you’re okay with it?” He stood and walked to the window. Maybe he didn’t want to see my reaction.
“Why wouldn’t I be okay with it?”
He waved a hand over his shoulder without looking back. “Since you know, gay guy.”
“I think me caring about your sexuality went out the window when we fucked on camera.”
“You never know.” He turned around and leaned into the window. “That’s work, this is real life.”
“You’ve slept in my trailer.” Why was he more weirded out by this than I was?
“On the sofa. Don’t listen to me. I don’t want anything to change between us.” There was a hesitation in his voice I hated. If I was honest, I was dying to be in that bed with him. I was half hard thinking about it. Alone in here after the premiere. Hale’s hands on me. What kissing him would be like without anyone watching.

I love books in which the plot pulls you into the lives of the characters…especially when there is tenderness between the two. Falling in love is a gift!
