When two tornado chasers form a reluctant team, the pressure between them builds…
Human-interest reporter–and son of a famous storm chaser–Guthrie Gale wants nothing to do with severe weather. But his station’s director insists he join the storm chasing team, or else, and worse yet, she pairs him with hotshot rookie chaser Luke Masters.
All Luke wants is to be a part of the KTTY family, and he won’t let prickly Guthrie Gale spoil his chance. Little does he realize Guthrie’s anxiety around storms is more than justified.
As Oklahoma’s unpredictable tornado season picks up, Guthrie and Luke strike up a turbulent working relationship that shifts between lust and bickering. But when they are forced to outrun a dangerous twister, their trust is tested and the desire between them flashes quick as lightning, threatening to burn more than just their careers.
REVIEW:
I’m an obsessed watcher of disaster movies. Natural disasters, end of the world, zombies…whatever it might be, I love them! Growing up, Twister was one of my favourite movies, so when I saw this book I was kinda hoping that the author would deliver something along those lines, but at the same time I was reminding myself not to build my hopes up too much. OMG, I adored this book. It was the perfect tornado chaser story, just like one of those movies I love!
Guthrie and Luke were both interesting characters with more depth than I was expecting to be honest. I thought this book might rely on the nail-biting storm scenes to carry the story, but the relationship that develops between our two main men was well done. Not going to lie, I was always anxious to get back to what I considered to be the main event here (the tornadoes obviously!) but for those readers who require a nicely fleshed out romance between two men who initially misjudge each other, then this author won’t disappoint.
As for the storm chasing bits, I appreciated the way it was covered for several reasons. Firstly, I liked that the men didn’t end up getting caught in tornadoes every time they headed out. The fact that they sometimes caught nothing made the waiting more enjoyable. Secondly, I’m grateful that there was at least one ‘oh shit, we’re gonna die’ scene because I would have been so disappointed without it. Thirdly, I loved all the scientific weather talk as you get whisked along with their coordinated team of professional storm chasers. While I can’t say that the author got all that stuff right (an expert might despair) it certainly sounded like she had done her homework, and I was definitely convinced.
What I loved most about this book? The pain-in-the-butt storm chasing tour operators and all their gawking tourists. Did you all know that’s a thing!? This book laments their idiotic presence, but I could totally see myself considering such stupidity as part of my next vacation!
I really, really hope that the author continues this as a series, and isn’t just teasing us with that ‘Storm Chasers #1’.
