BLURB:
The South Pacific Archipelago is home to a tiny island community of around three hundred scientists… and twenty thousand dinosaurs. As a paleogeneticist, Kit Sterling leads a team studying the dinosaurs to unlock the unanswered questions of evolution.
But there is something more dangerous than dinosaurs on the islands.
Head ranger Logan Beck discovers evidence of poachers, while rumors of a black market for dinosaur leather swirl around the community. Kit and Logan haven’t always gotten along professionally, though that has nothing to do with their attraction to each other. So when they’re thrown together to save an injured infant dinosaur, their professional disdain turns into a clandestine romance.
With not just the injured dinosaur at risk, but all of the precious dinosaurs on the islands too, Kit and Logan have to figure out how to balance their budding romance without letting their careers go extinct.
REVIEW:
Yet again, another I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more from. Imagine a world where dinosaurs are still alive. Just secluded to a very private set of islands, where researchers, rangers and scientists are doing all the can to study, protect and ensure the lives of these dinos. But, as so often happens, greed comes into play and the dino nation is now at risk with poachers. And it’s up to two very important MCs to dig and discover and tell the truth to what is going on.
Logan roaming these islands to protect, tag and ensure these dinos survive, is all in a day’s work for him. But sometimes it’s a very dangerous job. As he’s been caught in a few compromising situations where his death could become a sure thing. With one incident, he was lucky to be alive at all. But he does what he’s supposed to to protect these babies, and bring samples back to the labs to help understand what is out there and to help better protect them. And his bringing things to the lab is kind of a hot button issue with him. Because a certain hot doctor works there and pushes Logan’s buttons in ways he never thought possible. What he doesn’t know is he pushes Kit’s buttons just as bad. Which often lead to very heated and loud debates in the labs. But this time, Logan feels tongue tied and wants to ask Kit out but can’t manage the words. But somehow they start to talk and date, so to speak, and get to know each other. To the point, Kit is beyond pissed when he sees how bad Logan had gotten hurt from a job. He was also there with Logan when they rescued a dino baby that wouldn’t have survived. Even though it’s against the rules. But things are heating up as they find out there are poachers getting onto the islands and using the hides of dinos for clothing and such. And when they find out who is behind it, the betrayal is all that much worse. Especially when said person has already tried to manipulate them both into doing something they don’t want to by using the baby dino as leverage. And when the baby is kidnapped, it’s even worse. And it’s time to bring all this to a stop. They just hope they can do it in time, before more dinos or people are killed.
I love the connection with Kit and Logan. It actually made this book so much better. The sci-fi part was fun as hell. Thinking about what it would be like if dinos were still alive. But with Kit and Logan’s relationship and the work they do, the way they spark off each other, it just made it a fun book I would like to see more of. Maybe a little novella down the road to see how everything has progressed. It’s a good book. It has its slow moments where you get into the more scientific aspects of it, but there is some good action. There is shadiness from assholes who are greedy and so much more. It’s been a fun read. And what really cracks me up is how much of a mama bear the big burly Logan is to this little dino. It’s so funny and Kit has no problem picking on him about it either. What I also loved was how far Logan and Kit were going to protect these creatures. Especially Logan. Even though dinos no longer exist, we have a whole world of animals who do need protecting from greedy assholes.
Anyway, it’s a fun book. I really enjoyed it and the characters. A lot of good laughs and interesting moments. Moments of biting your nails as well. Kind of like a Jurassic Park thing. More or less. Give it a try and see what you think.
