Parker Tyler has been playing professional ball since high school, but now faces an uncertain future in the game. Wanting to relocate from his professional troubles, Parker finds himself in New York, which happens to be where his high school sweetheart is falling to pieces.
When Parker calls out to Connor two things run through his head. The first, if he’d be able to reclaim the love, he walked out on ten years before. Or, if Connor would take his opportunity to be the one to walk away.
Can these two put the past where it belongs and find happiness once again? Or will Parker’s actions create a rift that can never be mended?
Triggers are substance abuse, traumatic accident.
REVIEW:
I picked this book out on a whim because of the custom motorcycles aspect, but there was way more to it than the custom bike shop. In fact, the bike shop played a very minor role in the story so far.
We meet Connor Reed, a famous race car driver and the owner of the custom motorcycle shop, when he enters a bar to tie one on. He hasn’t had a drink in the ten or so years since his ex, Parker Tyler, left him because Connor needed to figure out his drinking issues. The only problem, Connor quit drinking, but Parker never came back. Flash forward to today, and Connor is getting sloshed because the man he has been with for three of the ten years since Parker left, has also left him. With no note, no explanation, nothing. So, Connor is working his way through a bottle and who walks into the same bar in New York City where Connor happens to be, but Parker. When Connor throws up all over Parker and Parker’s rental car, Parker ends up back at Connor’s place, putting him to bed.
From there the story moved in sort of a predictable way, but it was a way that I quite thoroughly enjoyed. Things happen which bring the two men closer together, and things happen which could pull them apart forever. In the end, will they be able to surmount the issues they each face with their careers, and with each other? Will they finally learn to communicate with each other?
This author is new to me, but I noted that she has a sequel to this book coming in a couple weeks. Sign me up for that one as well! It is about a side character in this first book, but I’m hoping we get more of Connor and Parker along the way as well.
I recommend this one to anyone who might enjoy a contemporary romance that revolves around some broken individuals with issues. I enjoyed getting to know the MCs, and hope they appear in the next book in the series.
